Indiana Jones And The Great Circle Has A Humane Solution For Battling Dogs

As a long-time fan of Indiana Jones and his daring adventures, I couldn’t be happier to learn that our beloved hero will spare the canine companions of the villains in the upcoming game, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. This decision is a testament to the character’s depth and compassion, which goes beyond the action-packed scenes we’ve seen so far.

In his adventurous travels, it might appear as though Harrison Ford’s character, Indiana Jones, doesn’t own a pet. However, the third movie, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, reveals that Indy once cherished a dog named Indiana, which he was deeply fond of. This affection for dogs is one of the reasons why Indiana Jones, in Bethesda and MachineGames’ Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, won’t be targeting any enemy dogs.

In a conversation with IGN, MachineGames’ Creative Director Jens Andersson clarified that Indiana Jones’ interactions with guard dogs in the game won’t follow the pattern seen in their Wolfenstein series. Instead, Indiana can deter these dogs by waving his weapon at them, rather than harming them as he might have done previously.

Andersson stated, “[Indiana Jones] identifies more with canines,” suggesting a contrast to Wolfenstein where dogs behave differently, even exploding in some instances. However, this Indiana Jones iteration is intended for a broader audience, making it more friendly for families. To maintain this family-friendly image, we approach it thoughtfully. In our version, dogs are portrayed as adversaries, but they’re not harmed; instead, they’re scared off by your actions.

It’s good news for the dogs, but not so much for Doctor Jones. In TopMob’s initial playthrough of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, it appears that the game emphasizes stealth rather than full-blown action. This could pose another difficulty for Indy as he tries to avoid detection by Nazi soldiers, especially when dealing with enemy dogs. However, Indy has no qualms about punching a Nazi, and in this game, he can also eliminate Nazis using stealth attacks or improvised weapons.

The adventure game, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, is set to release for Xbox Series X|S and personal computers on December 9th. A version for PlayStation 5 will be available in the year 2025.
