Incredibly Racist

One notable accomplishment within the game, which certain enthusiasts deem “extremely offensive”, has sparked calls for its removal from Schedule 1.

The moment Schedule 1 debuted on Steam’s Early Access on March 24, it immediately gained widespread popularity. Despite being in the development phase, it received its initial content update swiftly, and it has managed to maintain an impressive number of players even following several weeks post-launch.

Numerous individuals are enamored by its thrilling game dynamics because it offers a myriad of activities. You can craft goods with bizarre outcomes, engage in casino games, and there’s plenty more to discover.

As a gamer, I’ve been thoroughly enjoying this game’s success, but there have been some unexpected challenges along the way. Initially, there were rumors swirling about an investigation into copyright issues. More recently, the community has raised concerns over one in-game achievement that they believe is offensive and potentially racist.

Schedule 1 players call out “racist” Indian Dealer achievement

According to a user’s post on X, the accomplishment being discussed is the “Indian Dealer” task, which involves selling a product to a customer only to swiftly retrieve it by pickpocketing them afterwards.

Among all the in-game accomplishments, this is the sole one that highlights a particular ethnicity, and some players find it offensive or unacceptable.

Originally posted by User Tyler, he expressed his appreciation for the drug-dealing game but found the specific achievement problematic due to its racial connotation since it’s the sole one mentioning a race. He suggested that perhaps this achievement could be taken out of the game, considering this concern.

Another individual, expressing similar sentiments, pointed out that this accomplishment employs a racially charged phrase linked to damaging stereotypes. They clarified their concern by stating that the term “Indian Dealer” is derived from the offensive phrase “Indian Giver.

The use of this term originates from a deep-rooted history of racism and stereotypes towards Indigenous people. It doesn’t necessarily mean it was used with harmful intent, but the consequences are still significant. Such words perpetuate incorrect stories and can cause harm, especially when they become commonplace in games that we enjoy.

They proposed: “Here’s something to note: The accomplishment listed under Schedule 1 is connected to racially charged language. We kindly request that the creators think about either deleting or renaming this achievement for us.

At the moment when this is being written, the person who made Schedule 1 hasn’t responded. We will make sure to update you if there are any changes or developments.
