The Made in Huntington Film & TV Festival is now kicking off its inaugural event, aiming to nurture up-and-coming filmmakers, given that a Steven Spielberg production is being shot nearby.
From Thursday through April 6th, the festival will be hosting 14 public screenings, featuring a total of 35 selected titles from among 100 submissions. For the executive producer of the festival and director of film and television at Huntington, this event provides a distinctive platform to spotlight production possibilities available in Long Island.
Huntington stands out due to its high concentration of television and movie professionals such as executives, producers, directors, and scriptwriters,” Schramm explains to EbMaster. “What’s intriguing is that many individuals, including myself, have spent years working for the same companies. Now, in their semi-retirement phase, they’re venturing into filmmaking at the age of 55 or 60 for the first time.
Schramm points out that Huntington is situated near both Steinway Studios and Silvercup Studios, two notable filming locations in New York City. Notably, productions such as “Sirens,” “The Americans,” “American Horror Story,” and “Jigsaw” have recently been filmed in the town. Additionally, a portion of Huntington lies within a significant production area of New York.
Schramm highlights that Huntington is in close proximity to Steinway Studios and Silvercup Studios, both known for their filming activities in New York City. Recently, shows like “Sirens,” “The Americans,” “American Horror Story,” and “Jigsaw” have been filmed there. Moreover, a section of Huntington is part of a prominent production district within New York.
Schramm stated that we established the film festival since Huntington showed a strong determination to welcome Hollywood.
Apart from four screening days, the festival is additionally hosting an Industry Day on April 5, which is open to any filmmakers who submitted a project for the festival. This day includes a series of panel discussions with professionals from Kino Lorber, the Woodstock Film Festival, and The New School.
Schramm stated, ‘We strongly feel we return significant worth to the filmmaker. If Steven Spielberg finds Huntington suitable, I’d like to think other esteemed directors see it as an attractive destination.’
