As a cinephile who has witnessed the evolution of the cinematic landscape over the years, I am thrilled to welcome Jonathan Fischer to his new role as Chief Content Officer at Imax. With a career spanning Netflix, Illumination Entertainment, New Regency Entertainment, and more, it’s clear that this man knows the ropes when it comes to delivering high-quality content.

Previously with Netflix and Illumination Entertainment, Jonathan Fischer is set to take on the role of Chief Content Officer at Imax. This company, renowned for being the go-to format for film enthusiasts wanting to watch blockbusters like “Dune: Part Two” and “Oppenheimer,” stated that Fischer will lead their content strategy encompassing both Hollywood and international films. Moreover, he will aid in the expansion of Imax, directing them as they delve into producing documentaries, concerts, sports events, and other forms of entertainment for their screens.

I’ll be stationed at our Playa Vista headquarters and will directly oversee my work to Rich Gelfond, the CEO of Imax.

Imax is expanding its range of content to provide a broader, more varied selection to global audiences. This includes over 100 unique, breathtaking experiences from Hollywood movies and international films, documentaries, music, sports, and gaming in 2024. In a statement, Gelfond mentioned this. He also stated that Jonathan, with his rich experience, will be essential as more filmmakers and artists than ever look to create content for our platform.

More recently, Fischer held the position of Vice President for Global Content Strategy and Analysis in Netflix’s film division, where he devised their approval system and worked closely with talent during contract negotiations and deal-making. Before joining Netflix, Fischer served as the Chief Operating Officer at both Illumination Entertainment, renowned for creating the “Despicable Me” and “Sing” series, as well as New Regency Entertainment, known for producing films like “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “The Revenant.

Apart from his acting roles, Fischer has held various key positions in the entertainment industry. He was the president of Groundswell Productions, the CFO of independent production company Intrepid Pictures, and he worked on business development and strategic planning at both Universal Pictures and The Walt Disney Company.

Fischer expressed his enthusiasm about collaborating with Rich and his talented group. He mentioned that IMAX offers an exceptionally engaging form of entertainment for its viewers, and he’s eager to work with both new and established partners to deliver captivating content to our audience.
