“I’m not into it.” Malcolm in the Middle revival without old Dewey, Bryan Cranston reveals why Erik Per Sullivan turned down the role

As a die-hard fan of Malcolm in the Middle, I can hardly contain my excitement about the news that this cherished comedy is coming back with four fresh episodes! Though it won’t be the same extended run we once knew, it’s an opportunity to revisit the lives of our favorite characters after so many years apart – at last, we’ll discover what became of Malcolm and his family.

Unfortunately, it’s been announced that not every actor from “Malcolm in the Middle” will be returning for its revival. The core cast members such as Frankie Muniz (as Malcolm), Jane Kaczmarek (as Lois), Bryan Cranston (as Hal), Christopher Masterson (as Francis), and Justin Berfield (as Reese) are still on board.

Erik Per Sullivan, originally playing Dewey, won’t be back next time as Caleb Ellsworth-Clark has taken over the role. The reason behind this change is that Erik decided not to return because he is pursuing his education at Harvard and no longer wishes to act (as reported by Entertainment Weekly).

I spoke with Erik, and I expressed, “Hey, great news! The show is returning.” He replied excitedly, “Wow, that’s amazing!” To which I responded, “Absolutely, we can’t wait for you to rejoin us.” He clarified, “No, I don’t intend to participate. But it’s still fantastic.

He is indeed attending Harvard University. His intellect is exceptional, and he is currently pursuing a master’s degree there. He mentioned, “Oh my goodness, no, I haven’t been acting since I was around 9 years old. Therefore, I’m not particularly interested in it.

Erik Per Sullivan chose to leave his acting career behind in 2010, concluding with the movie “Twelve.” Since then, he has stepped away from the public eye, opting instead for a new path that appears to be entirely distinct from his past work, and without any plans to return to acting as of now.
