In an exciting development, streaming service Shudder, which is jointly owned by IFC Films and AMC Networks, has secured the rights to show “Dangerous Animals,” a highly anticipated film directed by Sean Byrne (“The Devil’s Candy”), from LD Entertainment, for distribution within the United States.
In ‘Dangerous Animals’, we meet Zephyr (Harrison), a rule-breaking surfer who finds himself in peril at the hands of a shark-fixated murderer named Courtney. The storyline reveals that Zephyr is held captive on Courtney’s boat, with the looming threat that he may become part of a ritualistic shark feeding.
Emily Gotto, Shudder’s Senior Vice President for Acquisitions and Productions, stated, “Sean Byrne is undeniably one of the most intense filmmakers in the present genre field, and we are ecstatic to collaborate with him once more on ‘Dangerous Animals.’
In this movie, he fearlessly explores two of horror’s most frightening genres – serial killers and sharks – merging them into a uniquely intense and brutal display. Get ready for a revolutionary cinematic journey that will take your breath away this summer. This description was provided by Gotto, who brokered the deal for IFC Films and Shudder, as well as LD’s Michael Glassman and Range Select on behalf of the filmmakers.
Previously, Byrne had teamed up with IFC for the movie “The Devil’s Candy,” a genre success that made its debut at the Sitges Film Festival back in 2015.
Byrne expressed his joy to rejoin the IFC family and collaborate once more with his friends from LD, Brouhaha, Oddfellows, and Range. He’s eagerly anticipating the release of ‘Dangerous Animals’ this summer. Although there have been numerous shark films throughout history, Byrne guarantees that none will be similar to this one. In this survival horror film, audiences are left guessing which creature is truly the most dangerous – man or animal. It’s a thrilling spectacle that demands to be watched on the big screen,” said Byrne.
The show titled ‘Dangerous Animals’ is co-produced by Brouhaha Entertainment, working alongside LD Entertainment, Oddfellows Entertainment, and Range Media Partners.
As a passionate cinephile, I’m excited to share that “Dangerous Animals” was brought to life by a stellar team of producers. Troy Lum and Andrew Mason from Brouhaha Entertainment, Pete Shilaimon, Mickey Liddell from LD Entertainment, Chris Ferguson from Oddfellows Entertainment, and Brian Kavanaugh Jones from Range Media Partners all played significant roles in the production process. Moreover, Mister Smith Entertainment has taken on the international distribution rights for this thrilling film, and at the EFM, they unveiled a number of intriguing deals associated with it.
IFC Films’ current collection features a stop-motion film titled “Memoir of a Snail” by Adam Eliott, which has been nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars. Additionally, it includes “The Ugly Stepsister,” a horror reinterpretation of the Cinderella story by Emilie Blichfeldt, which debuted in Sundance’s Midnight section. These are just a few examples from their lineup.
