The John Wick series is looking forward to an extensive expansion, as three upcoming movies have been announced for production this year, but it’s unfortunate that a significant aspect of the films – the dynamic between Winston Scott, the Continental manager, and Charon, the hotel’s concierge – will remain in the past. Ian McShane and Lance Reddick have delivered an exceptional partnership on screen in all four John Wick movies, and their absence from future projects is saddening following Reddick’s passing in early 2023.
The actor who recently passed away finished promoting John Wick: Chapter 4 worldwide tour before his demise. Since then, Ian McShane, who frequently collaborated with him in interviews, has been reminiscing about their final moments, especially in the run-up to Ballerina’s premiere. During the New York press day for the 2025 movie, TopMob’s Hannah Saulic questioned McShane about their work together on the Ana de Armas-led production, and he shared his last encounter with his co-star.
Today, he’s been on my mind quite a bit. You see, we often shared experiences, and it feels strange without him around today. Funny enough, the last time we did something similar was in LA. We appeared on the Kelly Clarkson Show, and the next day, we were jetting off to Europe. I was heading to London for the world premiere, while he was going elsewhere. I remember saying, “I’ll see you back in LA.” Sadly, that didn’t happen. Life moves quickly, so stay safe.
In late 2022, Ian McShane and Lance Reddick filmed their parts for the movie “Ballerina.” This film is set during the gap between “John Wick: Chapter 3” and “John Wick: Chapter 4,” and it’s the last time viewers will see Winston Scott and Charon together on screen. In this new story, they support Ana de Armas’ character, Eve Macarro, much like they helped Keanu Reeves’ John Wick in the previous “John Wick” films.
Following Lance Reddick’s passing, audiences have been treated to a wealth of new projects featuring his talents – both live-action and voiceovers. Among the recent releases are the remake of ‘White Men Can’t Jump’, William Friedkin’s final film ‘The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial’, and the biopic ‘Shirley’. In animated series on Prime Video, he lends his voice to Thordak in ‘The Legend of Vox Machina’, and is Lex Luthor in the HBO Max DC show ‘Kite Man: Hell Yeah!’.
Featuring actors such as Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, Anjelica Huston who are known from the John Wick series, along with newcomers like Gabriel Byrne, Norman Reedus, David Castañeda, and Sharon Duncan-Brewster, the movie Ballerina is set to hit theaters this coming Friday, June 6.
