Universal Orlando is creating a lot of excitement with its new Epic Universe park, but they’re also making improvements to the original Universal Studios Florida. Many guests agree the park is much better now that the Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster has been removed, and everyone is wondering what will take its place.
Rumors suggested a new roller coaster was planned to replace the old one, but Universal hadn’t officially announced anything. Now, Universal Orlando Resort has finally revealed the details, and confirmed another ride will be removed to make way for it, joining Rip Ride Rockit!
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift Is Coming To Universal Studios Florida
Lots of people were guessing what new roller coaster would be built after the old one was removed. The most popular rumor was that Orlando would get a version of the ‘Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift’ coaster, which is opening at Universal Studios Hollywood later this year. Now, the resort has officially confirmed that rumor is true! The new coaster is scheduled to open in 2027.
I usually don’t like it when two theme parks have the exact same ride, but I’ll make an exception this time. Both versions will use the same high-speed, drifting ride vehicles, but everything else will likely be quite different. The ride in Hollywood is designed around a loop that goes around the park’s Starway escalator, which the Florida park doesn’t have, so the surrounding environment will be unique. Plus, the Florida park is promoting a 170-foot vertical spike that isn’t planned for the Hollywood version.
A roller coaster is the perfect addition the Fast & Furious series has been missing. It’s expected to be much more thrilling than the current ride at Universal Studios, and likely the reason that one is being replaced.
Fast & Furious: Supercharged Is Closing In 2027, And It Can’t Come Soon Enough
Just as the new Hollywood Drift ride is set to open, the existing Fast & Furious – Supercharged attraction will be permanently closing.
In 2015, Universal Studios Hollywood added Fast & Furious Supercharged to its famous Studio Tour. While it was an enjoyable part of the tour, being on a tram limited the feeling of being on a truly exciting ride.
That’s why it seemed strange when Universal Studios Florida opened Supercharged as its own ride three years later. It’s always felt a bit disconnected from the rest of the park, and it never really caught on with most visitors. You’d have to be a dedicated Fast & Furious fan to truly enjoy it.
I don’t really enjoy the Fast & Furious franchise, and even though the ride has some cool technology, it’s ultimately disappointing. Honestly, the cast members in the pre-show are usually the highlight. I won’t miss it when it’s gone.
