As a seasoned gamer and film enthusiast with a soft spot for 80s classics, I must say that the tale of Josh Brolin’s blunder on the set of The Goonies is both amusing and endearing. Having grown up watching this iconic adventure comedy, it’s fascinating to learn about the behind-the-scenes stories that shaped its making.

39 years have passed since the release of the beloved film “The Goonies”, a production that remains etched in the memories of both its fans and the actors involved. Many of these stars made their debut or experienced their first taste of fame with this movie. Notably, Josh Brolin’s career can be traced back to his role in “The Goonies”.

In his early days as an actor, Brolin accidentally blurred a scene during filming of Richard Donner’s movie, particularly the iconic moment when the pirate ship is unveiled. The production team aimed, as in many other instances, to record genuine responses from young actors like Brolin. Regrettably, the star of Avengers: Endgame let out a profanity, disrupting the shot.

The actor told the story in a Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast.

Initially, I followed, but was told to proceed, and as I noticed others also moving forward, I arrived late, not paying full attention. In that moment, I wasn’t fully aware. Upon reaching my destination, I took a glance, turned around, looked again, and exclaimed, feeling surprised, “Oh no!” Donner reacted, “What?!” I quickly apologized, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry!” He urged me to retreat, saying, “Go back under! Go back under!” Unfortunately, my actions disrupted the entire event.

In a more straightforward and conversational manner: Instead of the scene with the profanity, clearly unfit for any purpose, Donner missed out on showcasing the genuine reaction in the film. Consequently, he had to opt for an alternate take. Meanwhile, Brolin, due to his actual reaction, was genuinely amazed by the ship, which the production team had kept hidden from him and the other actors, specifically for that scene he spoiled.
