‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Reboot: Camila Mendes, Madelyn Cline, Jonah Hauer-King to Star

As a movie reviewer with a strong background in analyzing the acting careers of up-and-coming talents, I am thrilled to share my thoughts on the recently announced cast for Sony’s reboot of “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” This 1997 horror classic is a beloved cult film that left an indelible mark on audiences with its suspenseful storyline and iconic performances.

Sony’s reboot of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” has found its principal cast.

Camila Mendes, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King are reportedly in discussions for roles in the remake of the 1997 horror film.

A tragic accident brought together four friends in the initial film, who were later reunited when they were all hunted by a maniac wielding a hook. This movie gained a large following and made over $125 million globally, paving the way for the sequel “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.” Discussions are ongoing for the return of original stars Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt.

As a movie buff, I’d put it this way: I’m excited to share that I’ll be watching a new film soon, with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson at the helm as its director. She co-wrote the script alongside Sam Lansky, building on an earlier draft by Leah McKendrick. Neal Moritz is producing the project. So, get ready for another great cinematic experience!

Sony Pictures will release the film in theaters on July 18, 2025.

Most recently, Mendes from “Riverdale” appeared in the romantic films “Upgraded” and “Música.” Some of his other roles are seen in “Dangerous Lies,” “Palm Springs,” and “Do Revenge.”

In her acting career, Cline has shone as Sarah Cameron on the much-loved Netflix show “Outer Banks,” which recently concluded its fourth installment. She has also graced the silver screen in Rian Johnson’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” and Focus Features’ “Boy Erased.” Her small-screen roles include appearances on “Stranger Things” and “Vice Principals.”

More recently, Hauer-King played the role of Prince Eric in Disney’s live-action adaptation of “The Little Mermaid,” sharing the screen with Halle Bailey. Previously, he featured in other productions such as “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” and “The Flatshare.”

Recently, Withers, recognized for his work on the FX show “Atlanta,” completed filming “Him” for Universal Pictures and Monkeypaw Productions. He also appears regularly in “Tell Me Lies” for Hulu and “The Game” for Paramount+.

Pidgeon is currently shining on Broadway in the production “Stereophonic,” where she’s reprising her original role of Diana from her off-Broadway debut at Playwrights Horizons. Her remarkable acting earned her a 2024 Tony Award nomination for best supporting actress in a play. In television, Pidgeon has been seen in “Tiny Beautiful Things” and “The Wilds.” Next, she will take on the lead role in the film “The Friend,” directed by David Siegel and Scott McGehee, alongside Naomi Watts and Bill Murray.
