As fans of Saturday Night Live are aware, the show celebrated a major milestone in 2025 with its 50th season. The anniversary was marked by a huge reunion, attracting stars from across Hollywood, including Emma Stone. Stone, a member of the show’s exclusive Five Timers Club, arrived in a stunning red Louis Vuitton gown and playfully revealed she’d filled the pockets with popcorn, despite the mess it might cause.
Though Season 51’s guest list is growing by the week, Stone reminisced about the big SNL event from the spring. While in conversation with Vogue, she shared more insight into the Nicolas Ghesquière-designed outfit and how Lorne Michael’s favorite cinematic snack became the star of the show. Though the Poor Things star did recognize that the statement accent piece was a hit, it was ultimately rude because of the trail she left behind her:
I initially believed this was a celebration of Lorne’s 50th anniversary. I had the idea of honoring him with popcorn, but I realize now that wasn’t a good plan. I accidentally dropped popcorn everywhere, which I know is impolite, and I apologize for that. However, many people did enjoy eating the popcorn I was carrying around, and they seemed happy to have a free snack.
Emma Stone’s vibrant red gown was a highlight of the SNL 50th anniversary special (which you can still watch on Peacock). It definitely turned heads, even though she playfully trailed popcorn behind her as she walked! The 50th anniversary celebration was a dazzling and memorable event. It was amazing to see former and current cast members of Studio 8H reunite, and the star power was incredible – Jason Momoa even met Meryl Streep! I’m sure many people, while grabbing popcorn from Ryan Gosling, couldn’t resist pausing to chat with Streep. I know I would have made several trips just to soak in the atmosphere.
