Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore have amazing chemistry in their romantic comedies, and many fans consider those films to be some of Sandler’s best. It’s been over ten years since they last appeared together in Blended, so a new rom-com starring both of them would be fantastic! Although a reunion is just wishful thinking for now, they recently got together and revealed a fun agreement they’ve had throughout their rom-com collaborations.
Adam Sandler appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show to discuss his latest film, Jay Kelly, which is currently available to stream on Netflix. During the conversation, Drew Barrymore shared an interesting tidbit about their shared movie history, saying:
Whenever Adam Sandler sings to me in our films, I prefer to hear the song for the very first time while we’re actually filming. I don’t want to listen to it beforehand! So, my surprised and emotional reactions when you see scenes like those in ‘The Wedding Singer’ – like when he sings ‘Forgetful Lucy’ or ‘I Want To Grow Old With You’ – are completely genuine.
The most heartwarming scenes between Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore often involve Sandler’s characters singing to Barrymore. A particularly memorable moment is when Sandler surprises Barrymore with the song “I Want To Grow Old With You” on a plane in their 1998 film, The Wedding Singer. I always feel touched when Sandler performs “Forgetful Lucy” by the fireplace in 50 First Dates (2004). Barrymore shared that she insisted those scenes be filmed live, capturing the genuine emotion, and Sandler agreed during a recent interview.
You always made sure of that.
Drew Barrymore made a great choice by keeping those scenes spontaneous. You really feel the genuine happiness and surprise from her and Adam Sandler, something that might be lost with lots of rehearsals. It seems like they had a blast filming those unexpected moments, and they’ve definitely become iconic romantic comedy scenes. There’s even been some online discussion about whether Barrymore or Jennifer Aniston has better chemistry with Sandler!
Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler have great chemistry, and fans have wondered if they’d star in another romantic comedy together. Back in 2020, Barrymore suggested they only do another movie if the script was truly exceptional and lived up to their previous work. Considering Sandler frequently works with actors he enjoys and he and Barrymore are still close, many are hoping for a future project that includes another memorable musical moment between the two.
Meanwhile, you can see Adam Sandler team up with George Clooney in Jay Kelly, out now.
