I Just Found My Next Action TV Fix While Waiting For Reacher Season 4

I’ve come to terms with the fact that the 2025 TV schedule won’t unexpectedly include a fourth season of Reacher, as it appears to have already been completed secretly. However, Alan Ritchson and the team are currently filming new episodes following the conclusion of the Neagley spinoff, which means we won’t see them for another year or so. While waiting is still difficult, having a different suspenseful action series to watch in the meantime definitely helps.

It seemed plausible that the upcoming action series titled “Butterfly” could satisfy my craving for such productions, considering it features Daniel Dae Kim, who has previously starred in and produced “Hawaii Five-0”. Similar to shows like “Reacher”, “The Boys”, and other popular action series of late, “Butterfly” will be streamable with an Amazon Prime subscription. Here’s the first trailer for “Butterfly” to understand why I’m eagerly anticipating it.

According to the 2015 graphic novel “Butterfly” by Marguerite Bennett & Arash Amel, illustrated by Antonio Fuso, the Prime Video series follows the life of David Jung, portrayed by Daniel Dae Kim. Once a U.S. intelligence operative, he attempts to start anew in South Korea but finds his past catching up with him. He might also find affection and parental guidance from someone during this journey.

For several years during which he was assumed deceased in America, a particular individual would have been thrilled to discover his existence. However, when this man’s life is laid bare, it will be through the relentless pursuit of a young, enigmatic spy named Rebecca, played by Reina Hardesty from both The Flash and It’s What Inside. Remarkably, Rebecca mirrors David’s unpredictable and erratic nature, and this isn’t merely coincidental.

Absolutely, “Butterfly” is not just about unmasking the evil organization where Rebecca works, but also delves deeply into her struggles with familial regrets and personal turmoil. (As for the father-daughter storyline in “Reacher”, let’s leave that be for now.) Both actors seem to have put immense effort into executing a wide range of stunts and action scenes.

This series appears to offer intense hand-to-hand combat scenes where an opponent’s arm is likely to be forcefully pushed back in a very uncomfortable manner. There will probably be several instances of this throughout the show. Additionally, you can expect gunfights, car chases, high jumps from buildings, explosions, and, most daringly, the bonding between characters.

I find myself leading the questionable organization pursuing David, a role that might not initially come to mind when thinking of Piper Perabo. Yet, given her recent transitions from clashing with Beth Dutton on Yellowstone to a hostage crisis in Grey’s Anatomy, it seems like a logical progression for her acting career. I can only hope that she doesn’t spend too much time staring at screens and phones within an office setting throughout the film.

Created for television by Ken Woodruff and Steph Cha, authors of “Gotham” and “The Mentalist”, respectively, and author of “Your House Will Pay”, the series “Butterfly” boasts a stellar cast that includes Charles Parnell, Kim Ji-hoon, Park Hae-soo, Kim Tae-hee, Nayoon Kim, and Sean Dulake.

Daniel Dae Kim will receive international acclaim as Fire Lord Ozai takes a more prominent role in the second season of Netflix’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” However, he’ll have an opportunity to showcase his fighting skills in a unique manner in this upcoming series that is proving hard to forget “Reacher” despite my best efforts.

Butterfly will make its debut on Prime Video on Wednesday, August 13.
