“I can’t believe they wasted it on this.” Marvel fans are disappointed with how this story was used, as it could have been an entire saga in the MCU

In 2023, Marvel’s TV show, derived from the 2008 comic book storyline, debuted. Titled “Secret Invasion”, this series revolves around Nick Fury and Talos as they unearth a plot by a band of disguise-capable Skrulls aiming to subjugate Earth.

The outline suggests a compelling tale with a strong possibility, possibly extending beyond a single TV show, leaving Marvel enthusiasts who believe that this narrative was underutilized by Marvel Studios disappointed for a performance that was only average. Unfortunately, the series failed to capture the hearts of either critics or viewers, instead fading into obscurity, despite its promising potential.

Some Marvel enthusiasts choose to ignore the events of “Secret Invasion” altogether, while others express regret that this storyline wasn’t expanded upon throughout an entire phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Fans have criticized the portrayal of “Secret Invasion” as being too insignificant and underwhelming. Instead, they believe that the introduction of the Skrulls would have been more impactful if it had occurred after Endgame, when the world was in chaos and needed rebuilding. In this scenario, the Skrulls could have infiltrated among the people without diminishing the significance of past events, as happened in the series where a key character was revealed to be a Skrull, which sparked criticism from MCU fans.

The escalating mistrust and frayed relationships among humans, accumulated throughout multiple productions rather than just one, played out subtly in the background. This prolonged tension ultimately led to a significant plot twist: the Skrulls being disguised among humanity. Had this unfolded over the course of a single, low-rated TV series and ended there, it likely wouldn’t have had as much impact on the overall narrative.

In essence, I proposed that phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe would primarily focus on a recovery period following the events of “Endgame.” The world appears fragmented and the new heroes are dispersed, which creates an opportunity for the Skrull to infiltrate and seize control. As they realize the threat, the scattered heroes rally together and unite against the Skrull, thereby serving as a model for global unity – Chemical_Bill_8533.

It’s quite ingenious! They had the opportunity to subtly incorporate Skrulls across every production, creating an element of suspense that would keep viewers hooked. This way, they could have been guessing which character might be a Skrull, making them fully engaged in each show without knowing who was a Skrull.

Ultimately, it leads to an Avengers film where all the Skrulls are exposed and a huge fight takes place. This is incredibly predictable, but someone in charge thought this was brilliant. It’s easily the worst choice Marvel Studios has ever made – Senor_Tortuga308.

Instead of Secret Invasion being released as the concluding film in the cinematic phase following Endgame, it would have been more fitting for it to serve as the initial film, taking place after the Avengers had either perished or retired, and when the universe was still grappling with the repercussions of The Blip. This timeline would have provided an ideal backdrop for a race of shape-shifters like the Skrulls to launch their attack and seize control. Each movie could have concluded with a post-credits twist, revealing that one of the film’s characters had been replaced by a Skrull imposter, culminating in an epic Avengers versus Skrulls showdown to bring the phase to a close – in essence, creating a more intricate and suspenseful narrative arc.

Fans of Marvel were anticipating a more substantial story in “Secret Invasion”. They envisioned a series that would significantly influence the Marvel universe, yet so far, it seems to have little or no impact. Instead, the narrative has been minimized into a minor subplot, leaving viewers displeased. Even two years after its release, the disappointment persists among Marvel fans, as they struggle to come to terms with how “one of only a few storylines that could sustain an entire saga” was underutilized.
