The upcoming movie, co-produced by Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company, will carry on the uplifting true tale of Bart Millard from MercyMe. This time, he grapples with a highly personal fatherly struggle that he can’t overcome alone. Directed by Brent McCorkle and Andrew Erwin, the script has been penned by McCorkle himself. The production team includes Kevin Downes, Erwin, Cindy Bond, Bart Millard, Daryl Lefever, and Joshua Walsh.

The initial motion picture generated more than $83 million at the domestic box office while only requiring a production budget of $7 million. Titled “I Can Only Imagine”, it narrated the genesis story of MercyMe’s record-breaking Christian single and chart-topper with the same name. As EbMaster‘s lead film critic, Peter Debruge, pointed out in his review, the movie resonates because of its relatable and hopeful nature. This is the very reason behind its success, mirroring that of the song: it alleviates some of the weight of present-day struggles, and provides a glimmer of hope for the future.
