In the thrilling finale of “The Hunting Wives,” I found myself standing at a crossroads that could significantly influence the narrative should Netflix decide to extend this captivating tale into another season. Originally slated for Starz, this gripping series was snatched up by Netflix in June, and its audience has been left on tenterhooks ever since. As a devoted fan, I can’t help but wonder what lies ahead for our characters, given the dramatic cliffhanger that closed out the first season.
In “The Hunting Wives,” the protagonists Sophie O’Neil and Margo Banks were delved into extensively, revealing how their friendship blossomed despite Sophie relocating from Boston to Texas. A series of shocking occurrences unfolded throughout the storyline, culminating in a climactic point in Episode 8 (the season finale), which brought about murder, deceit, and secrets that seemed impossible to grow any larger.
At the close of the final episode, it was revealed that Brittany Snow’s character, Sophie, had committed murder. This fact was uncovered by another individual, causing some surprise among viewers. However, this revelation also brought an element of poetic justice, as the person who discovered Sophie’s crime had a hidden secret of their own, which they in turn shared with Sophie.
On July 21, 2025, the first eight episodes of “The Hunting Wives” were released on Netflix. In addition to Snow, the series features Malin Akerman as Margo, Dermot Mulroney as Jed Banks, Jaime Ray Newman as Callie, and Chrissy Metz as Starr. “The Hunting Wives” is an enticing thriller based on a novel by May Cobb.
What Did Sophie Do in The Hunting Wives?
In the captivating narrative of “The Hunting Wives”, I find myself at a critical juncture, much like Sophie. Faced with a life-altering decision in the grand finale, I must choose between ending a life or sparing it, each option bearing significant and far-reaching implications.
Ultimately, Sophie made a tragic choice: running over Kyle (Margo’s brother), who had threatened her, with her car. Frightened, she ended up killing him. It is important to mention that at the time, Sophie was intoxicated beyond the legal limit for driving, so she chose not to report the incident to the authorities and instead hid his body.
As Sophie disposes of the corpse, Kyle’s phone suddenly rings. Sophie picks up the call, finding Margo – Kyle’s sibling – on the line. In that moment, Margo hears Sophie’s frightened, hurried breaths and realizes the situation.
It might seem logical for Margo to report Sophie’s secret to the police, but that isn’t the case. Instead, due to a secret of her own that Sophie is aware of, Margo finds herself obligated to uphold Sophie’s confidentiality.
Previously in “The Hunting Wives,” Sophie discovered that Margo was responsible for killing Abby. At first, Sophie believed Margo was attempting to falsely accuse her, but it turned out otherwise. However, since Sophie was aware of Margo’s wrongdoing, Margo understood that if she reported Sophie’s involvement in Kyle’s murder to the police, Sophie could potentially expose Margo as well.
In essence, Margo and Sophie must promise to protect each other’s confidences, as betraying one another would lead to mutual destruction of their individual lives.
