‘Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ Casts McKenna Grace as Maysilee Donner

Another tribute has been chosen.

In the upcoming “Hunger Games” prequel titled “Sunrise at the Reaping,” actress McKenna Grace is set to play Maysilee Donner, a tribute hailing from District 12, who will share screen time with the main character Haymitch Abernathy.

The novel titled “Sunrise at the Harvest” was released on March 18, and it is set 24 years prior to the events depicted in the initial Hunger Games, during which Haymitch was selected as one of the unfortunate tributes destined for mortal combat. Woody Harrelson portrayed Haymitch in the original Hunger Games series alongside Jennifer Lawrence, but Joseph Zada will portray a younger version of him in “Sunrise at the Selection,” as announced recently. Whitney Peak has been cast to play Lenore Dove Baird, who is Haymitch’s girlfriend in the story.

The film titled “Sunrise at the Harvest” is set to premiere in theaters on November 20, 2026. Since 2012’s “Catching Fire,” Francis Lawrence has been at the helm for each installment of the series and will direct this one too, based on a script written by Billy Ray. The production is under Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force, with Cameron MacConomy serving as executive producer. This film follows “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” a prequel released in 2023, which was set 40 years prior to this new movie. Rachel Zegler played Lucy Gray Baird, the District 12 winner, while Tom Blyth portrayed a young Coriolanus Snow, before he rose to become president.

Grace will appear in the movie “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” and will soon be featured in the Paramount adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel “Regretting You.” Upcoming projects for her include Blumhouse’s “Kiss of Death,” “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2,” “Scream 7,” and Lionsgate’s “Anniversary.

Grace is symbolized by entities such as CAA, Entertainment 360, and the law firm of Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox.
