A recent photo from the set of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping was taken while filming in Germany. The prequel, directed by Francis Lawrence, goes back to the 50th Hunger Games and features Joseph Zada as a young Haymitch Abernathy. The photo shows a poster made in the style of the Capitol, celebrating his win with a bold, propaganda-like design.
Joseph Zada’s Haymitch Abernathy appears in Hunger Games prequel set photo
A fan account, @thedistrictdispatch, shared a photo on September 22, 2025, of a poster used in the upcoming film. The poster, designed like those seen in the Capitol, features the character Zada and declares “Our Victor.” It also shows a younger Haymitch shortly after he won the 50th Hunger Games. The photo was taken on set in Germany by @4gewinnt66, giving fans their first look at the actor playing Haymitch.
In April 2025, Joseph Zada will take on the role of Haymitch Abernathy, a character previously played by Woody Harrelson in the Hunger Games movies. This new film will show Haymitch as a young man competing in and winning the Hunger Games. The movie is based on Suzanne Collins’ novel, *Sunrise on the Reaping*, which tells the story of the 50th Hunger Games, where the Capitol increased the number of tributes as a harsh new rule.
When a photo from the set appeared online, fans immediately flooded social media with excited reactions. Comments ranged from simple expressions of joy like “OMG I’m screaming” and “Our victor,” to more enthusiastic posts such as, “I can’t believe I woke up to this amazing news – thank you!”
Photos from the set reveal the film’s Capitol is designed with a 1960s and 70s aesthetic, including propaganda posters, industrial-style walls, and a worn, textured look. We’ve also seen glimpses of posters featuring Haymitch, Ralph Fiennes as President Snow, and the vehicles used by the Peacekeepers.
The new movie, *Sunrise on the Reaping*, will tell the story of how Haymitch Abernathy won his Hunger Games, bridging the gap between the prequel *The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes* and the original *Hunger Games* films. Directed by Francis Lawrence, it’s scheduled to come out in November 2026.
