Hulu Orders Multi-Cam Comedy ‘Mid-Century Modern’ With Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer, Nathan Lee Graham, Linda Lavin

As a movie buff with a penchant for comedy and a soft spot for multi-cam sitcoms, I must say Hulu’s “Mid-Century Modern” has piqued my interest. With a star-studded cast led by Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer, Linda Lavin, and Nathan Lee Graham, the series promises to be a laugh riot. The unique premise of three best friends navigating their golden years in Palm Springs sounds both heartwarming and hilarious.

Hulu has given a series order to the comedy “Mid-Century Modern,” EbMaster has learned.

It’s been announced that the multi-camera production has been under development at the streaming platform since June. The cast includes Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer, Nathan Lee Graham, and Linda Lavin.

I’m part of an extraordinary trio of friends, mature gentlemen in our own right, who share a special bond. When one of us experiences an untimely demise, we decide to spend our golden years under the sunny skies of Palm Springs, where the wealthiest among us calls home with his mother. Together, we navigate life’s challenges, reminding each other that no matter how tough things get, there’s always a shoulder to lean on – and sometimes, the wise advice to consider a little neck-tightening procedure!

Full character descriptions can be found below.

The show was developed by Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, who additionally serve as executive producers. Alongside them, Lane and Bomer hold executive producer roles, while Ryan Murphy and James Burrows do so as well. Notably, Burrows directed the initial episode, and 20th Television is the production company behind it.

Currently, Hulu’s original comedic lineup consists of shows like “Only Murders in the Building,” “Unprisoned,” and the animated series “Solar Opposites.” In addition, Hulu is expanding its presence in stand-up comedy by planning to introduce a dedicated comedy section on their platform in November.

Character Descriptions

Nathan Lane portrays the character of Bunny Schneiderman – a prosperous entrepreneur on the brink of retirement, who yearns for love yet remains uncertain about his worthiness. In this stage, he is continually seeking validation before embracing romantic relationships.

As a devoted admirer, I find Linda Lavin’s portrayal of Sybil Schneiderman remarkably captivating. Similar to her son, Sybil’s virtues often blur into vices: her wisdom, compassion, and rebellious spirit can occasionally manifest as criticism, overprotection, and a lack of moral compass.

Matt Bomber, known as Jerry Frank, departed from the Mormon Church and his marriage in his early twenties following the revelation to him, his wife, and the congregation that he was gay. Now, Jerry embodies the essence of a latter-day saint, being spiritually pure. He is physically strong yet mentally gentle.

Nathan Lee Graham portrays Arthur – Arthur is a seasoned, sophisticated figure from the world of fashion, harboring the conviction that life could never fully live up to the elegance and flair it would possess if only he were leading the way.
