Hulu Greenlights ‘The Testaments’: Amy Seimetz and More Join Cast in ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ Follow-Up

Glad to have you back! Exciting news, “The Handmaid’s Tale” follow-up series titled “The Testaments” has been greenlit for production by Hulu.

Additionally, the streamer revealed that they’ve recruited Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, and Mabel Li as part of the main cast for the upcoming series.

Seimetz portrays Paula, a tough homemaker and intimidating stepmother to Agnes (Chase Infiniti). Originally called Hannah in “The Handmaid’s Tale,” where Jordana Blake played her role, Agnes is the character. Alexander takes on Garth, a young Commander who gets entangled in the private lives of those he vowed to safeguard. Lastly, Li assumes the role of Aunt Vidala, a strict potential successor to the women’s domain within Gilead.

Additionally, we have Zarrin Darnell-Martin as Aunt Gabbana, Eva Foote as Aunt Estee, Isolde Ardies portraying Hulda, Shechinah Mpumlwana as Jehosheba, Birva Pandya in the role of Miriam, and Kira Guloien playing Rosa. Previously announced are Mattea Conforti, Infiniti, Lucy Halliday, Ann Dowd, and Rowan Blanchard.

Beginning production in Toronto on April 7 is ‘The Testaments,’ a TV series inspired by Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel, and taking place 15 years after the events depicted in ‘The Handmaid’s Tale.’ The story unfolds with a fresh crop of young women navigating life in the oppressive society of Gilead.

These young women have only known life within Gilead, as they possess no personal recollections of the world beyond before being indoctrinated. Facing the possibility of being wedded off and living a life of subjugation, they will need to seek out both familiar and new companions to aid in their struggle for liberty and the lives they truly deserve.

Similar to “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “The Testaments” was developed by author Bruce Miller, who additionally serves as the showrunner. Alongside Bruce Miller, Warren Littlefield from The Littlefield Company, Elisabeth Moss (who stars in “The Handmaid’s Tale”), Steve Stark, Shana Stein, Maya Goldsmith, John Weber, Sheila Hockin, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, and Mike Barker (who will also direct the first three episodes) all serve as executive producers.

The sixth and final season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” premieres April 8 on Hulu.
