Hulk Hogan ‘Killing Gawker’ Film in Active Development With Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s Artists Equity

As a seasoned movie buff with a penchant for legal dramas and a soft spot for comeback stories, I must say I find the upcoming film “Killing Gawker” intriguing, to say the least. The tale of Hulk Hogan’s legal battle against Gawker, backed by none other than Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, promises to be a captivating ride through the world of privacy, power, and revenge.

A film about Hulk Hogan’s infamous legal battle against Gawker is officially in the works.

As a movie critic, I’m excited to share that Artists Equity, the production company helmed by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, has secured the rights for a screenplay penned by Charles Randolph, inspired by Ryan Holiday’s captivating book “Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker, and the Anatomy of Intrigue.” This thrilling tale is currently under active development, with the title “Killing Gawker” set to intrigue audiences. Stay tuned for more updates!

At present, there’s been talk about Ben Affleck playing the part of the contentious wrestler, but nothing official has been confirmed yet.

In March 2016, Terry Crews (represented by the name Hogan here) obtained a $140 million verdict against Gawker Media, its founder Nick Denton, and one of its editors. This court decision was due to a lawsuit concerning Gawker’s publication of a private video involving Crews. However, this financial backing for the lawsuit came from Peter Thiel, a contentious tech entrepreneur, as retribution for Gawker having revealed Thiel’s sexual orientation years prior.

In their first decision, the jury determined that Gawker infringed upon Hogan’s privacy by publishing the tape, causing him significant emotional distress due to the leak. The video, recorded five years before it was made public, depicted Hogan engaging in intimate activities with the then-spouse of radio personality Bubba the Love Sponge.

After the court decision, Gawker ceased its activities. In July 2021, Bustle Digital Group, led by founder and CEO Bryan Goldberg, purchased Gawker’s assets for $1.35 million at a bankruptcy auction in 2018. However, the relaunch of Gawker was brief, as it shut down again in February 2023.

Artists’ Equity is responsible for several productions, such as “Air,” “Kiss the Future,” “The Greatest Love Story Never Told,” and the upcoming film starring Cillian Murphy titled “Small Things Like These.” Additionally, they have other projects in the works, including “The Accountant 2,” “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” “The Instigators,” and “Unstoppable.”

The film has no formal start date or production schedule. Artists Equity had no comment.
