As a dedicated fan of both Hugh Howey and Apple TV+, I can confidently say that the upcoming collector’s edition of Wool is a must-have addition to any sci-fi enthusiast’s library. Having devoured the original trilogy multiple times, I am thrilled to see it getting the recognition it deserves with this beautiful collector’s edition.
Apple TV+ is filled with critically acclaimed shows, but few are as impressive as Silo. The dystopian sci-fi series is based on a novel series of the same name by acclaimed novelist Hugh Howey. Fans of Howey’s work and the show can now preorder a striking collector’s edition of Wool–the first book in the trilogy. Amazon offers a preorder price guarantee, so preordering today means you’ll be entitled to any subsequent price drops between now and its release on October 15. Season 2 of Silo premieres on November 15, so you’ll have plenty of time to read (or re-read) Wool before it begins. The story, “Wool,” unfolds in a universe where people are fighting to persist. After the surface of the earth has become uninhabitable, what remains of humanity must reside in an underground shelter, known as a silo. When the sheriff of the silo steps down from his position, a mechanic named Juliette is compelled to assume his role. Subsequently, a thrilling science fiction adventure unfolds, with Juliette delving into a plot that could significantly alter the course of their world.
Initially, Howey opted to self-publish Wool on Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing platform. Notably, he chose to publish the book in installments, mimicking the style of serialized novels popular during the 1800s, as exemplified by authors like Charles Dickens. Similarly, The Martian author Andy Weir gained success with a similar serial release method; however, instead of Amazon, he used his personal blog to distribute the story to readers.
Initially, Wool experienced significant success on the Amazon Kindle platform, which paved the way for a print edition distribution deal with Simon & Schuster. Now, the Wool Collector’s Edition is set to be released under the banner of William Morrow.
Wool begins the tale of Silo, but the story is far from over once you close the book. Howey continues the story with Shift and concludes it with Dust–and while these don’t yet have fancy collector’s edition, you can pick up paperback versions for cheap. There’s also The Silo Series Box Set featuring all three books for just $30 (down from $60), making it the most affordable way to enjoy the trilogy.
