Navigating the path to your first spell can be a little perplexing, but fear not! Here’s how to unlock your magical abilities and discover more spells in Fields of Mistria.
How to unlock magic in Fields of Mistria
To acquire your initial spell in the enchanting world of Mistria and unveil your magical prowess, venture towards the mine. Should you discover that the mine remains locked for you, consult my Fields of Mistria Walkthrough and Guide to reveal the secret. Unlocking the mines requires a touch of dedication, but rest assured, you’ll have this task completed in no time!
After unlocking the mine, navigate through it to reach Floor 10 by breaking open rocks using your pickaxe until you come across a series of ladders. Every fifth floor, you’ll get an elevator access, so there’s no need to rush or miss anything on the way down.
Upon reaching level 10, I personally choose to press on, eventually succumbing on level 19.
Every time I drift off to dreamland, a mystical figure named Caldarus manifests by my side. He senses the awakening of magical energies across the realm, and in his newfound power, he’s ready to share with me a single enchantment that’s safe for humans.

How to get more spells in Fields of Mistria
With your newfound powers and initial incantation at hand, it’s high time to revisit the mine. Proceed towards level 20 where you’ll encounter an enigmatic chamber featuring a mysterious tablet and a sealed doorway, preventing any advancement deeper within the mine.
In this part, the game seems to offer some guidance. You should approach Eiland, who’s quite excited about the situation, and following your conversation, you’ll accompany him to meet Juniper.
Juniper can decipher the message on the tablet, guiding you about the sacrifices needed to pass through that particular door.
You’ll need the following items:
- A Lantern Moth
- A Ruby
- A Stone Loach
- An Upper Mines Mushroom
All of these can be found in the first 20 floors of the mine (also known as The Upper Mines”.
Please carry these items up to Room 20 on the twenty-first floor, and arrange them as tributes in the statue’s four hand-like claws. When the door swings open, Caldarus will bestow upon you a second spell – the Summon Rain – as a token of appreciation for your journey into the Tide Caverns, which spans floors 21 to 40 of the mine.
Every twenty stories, a door identical to this one opens up, and stepping through it grants you a fresh magical incantation each occasion.
