‘How to Train Your Dragon,’ ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Among Titles Coming to HDR by Barco Cinemas

Approximately a baker’s dozen of films set to release in 2025 will be optimized for High Dynamic Range (HDR) using Barco laser projectors, a pioneer in cinema technology. This revelation was made at CinemaCon. Among these movies is Universal Pictures’ “How to Train Your Dragon,” scheduled to premiere on June 13th. The film garnered much praise when it had its initial screening during the theater owners conference on Wednesday.

Apart from dragons, Universal is introducing dinosaurs to their format as well. The upcoming movie “Jurassic World Rebirth,” set to premiere on July 2nd, will also feature an HDR release by Barco. In the next installment of this franchise, Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali are among the stars.

This week, Barco announced that both “The Karate Kid: Legends” and “28 Years Later,” produced by Sony, will feature HDR technology provided by Barco. In “Legends,” original Karate Kid actor Ralph Macchio, Ben Wang, and the iconic Jackie Chan star, with its release set for May 30th. Meanwhile, Danny Boyle’s zombie thriller “28 Years Later” is scheduled to hit screens on June 20th.

So far this year, “Novocaine” from Paramount and “A Working Man” from Amazon MGM Studios have been screened in HDR format at compatible theaters. The film adaptation of the game “Minecraft,” titled “A Minecraft Movie,” produced by Legendary, Warner Bros., and Microsoft, will be released in supported theaters on April 4th. Additionally, “Sinners,” directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan, will hit screens at compatible theaters on April 18th from Warner Bros.

This month, additional titles with HDR by Barco that were earlier announced will be released. Among them are “Warfare,” a film written and directed by Ray Mendoza, an Iraq War veteran, which is set to release on April 11, as well as “Civil War” director Alex Garland’s project for A24. Furthermore, the Ben Affleck-starring thriller “The Accountant 2” will be released on Amazon MGM on April 25.

These cutting-edge technologies are specifically designed to harmonize seamlessly with Barco’s Series 4 laser projectors, all showcased at this event.
