Rockstar Games has introduced a fresh content update for Red Dead Online, featuring four new Telegram missions known as “Strange Tales of the West.” These unique missions offer players an opportunity to engage with stories revolving around zombies, science, and robots, offering a diverse experience compared to other missions in Red Dead Online. Notably, this is a return to a more unusual aspect of the game reminiscent of Undead Nightmare, the undead-themed expansion from the original game, which hasn’t been seen much since then.
From now until August 4, completing the four freshly added Telegram missions will grant triple the usual amounts of gold, RDO$, and XP. But before you can enjoy these rewards, it’s essential to learn how to initiate each of the Strange Tales of the West missions first. To help you out, we’ll guide you through starting each new Telegram mission, as well as give a brief overview of what you can expect in these exciting adventures.

1. Follow these simple instructions to embark on your mission journey:
- Once you’ve loaded into the world, visit either a Post Office or your Camp Lockbox and open your mail
- Here, you’ll see a new letter from Theodore Levin called “Strange Tales of the West Vol. 1”
- Take this letter and then open your satchel or visit the player menu to view the Telegram
- When you go to view the Telegram, you can open the letter and pick from one of four missions, which are as follows:
- Strange Tales of the Plague

What’s in each Strange Tales of the West mission?
With our discussion on initiating the adventures of Strange Tales of the West now complete, let’s delve deeper into the unique aspects that await you in every mission.
Strange Tales of the Plague
As an enthusiastic gamer, I find myself drawn to the initial assignment in this game, titled “Strange Tales of the Plague.” Unlike the starting point, this mission doesn’t require immediate attention, but it’s one I can’t wait to embark on. In this cooperative adventure, I join forces with a comrade and set out to locate and transport infected bodies scattered across the town of Armadillo. Our team is equipped with two lives, and our objective is to deliver a total of four corpses to a specified drop-off point.
Locating these corpses should be straightforward, thanks to their locations being clearly marked in yellow on the map. However, the real challenge lies in traversing through Armadillo, which teems with relentless zombies intent on thwarting our progress. To add to the chaos, cultists will unexpectedly appear and open fire, transforming this mission into a struggle for survival.
Strange Tales of Modern Science
Coming up next is “Strange Tales of Modern Science,” shifting the spotlight from zombies towards the realm of… robots. The adventure commences with your squad conversing with a scientist who’s developed an artificial life form, but unfortunately, these creations have seized control over Braithwaite Manor. Your objective is to neutralize the mechanical beasts that the scientist constructed and uncover why they malfunctioned so severely in the initial stages.
Strange Tales of the Bayou
In this endeavor titled “The Strange Tales of the Bayou,” you’ll encounter a blend of the initial two tasks. The main goal is to vanquish a formidable creature dwelling in the swamps, known as a ‘swamp beast.’ Upon defeating it, you must transport the carcass to Theodore Levin for analysis. However, beware! The Lagras marshlands are teeming with various other creatures that may hinder your progress. Rest assured, this mission promises an exhilarating experience, complete with startling surprises. Stay alert and swift with your firearm, and you’ll eventually come face-to-face with the swamp beast. Once encountered, figuring out how to eliminate it becomes the next challenge.
Strange Tales of the Wilderness
In a place known as the Tall Trees, I’ve been tasked with finding a missing scientist who was conducting research on a notorious gang. I know this mission won’t be easy, as it involves taking down enemies to track down the person I’m seeking. But here’s the twist: during my search, I might find myself in dire straits, stripped of all resources except for my raw survival skills and intuition. It’ll be a battle for survival out there – I’ll need to hunt for food, scrounge up weapons, and gather supplies to keep going. And let me tell you, the Tall Trees are hiding more than just a missing scientist; it seems the kidnappers who took them also have roots there. So, I’m on a double mission: to find the scientist and bring them home safely, and to expose and take down the killers who dared to snatch them away.
In Strange Tales of the West within Red Dead Online, every mission offers distinct experiences and thrilling gameplay. The missions are not sequential, allowing you flexibility in tackling them. You’re free to replay a mission as many times as desired, perhaps to experiment with fresh strategies or accumulate additional gold, RDO$, and XP.
