How to solve the Strange Little Verse I riddle
The first riddle goes:
A Proper Scholar is Curious!
On Vintner’s Street there stand Two Marys tall and grand.
The first to the south is gazing,
The second to the east is facing.
But neither is aware
They are not on dry land there.
In one pipe take a peek
For the wet beads that you seek.
Regrettably, the game map for Kuttenberg does not show street names, but if you’ve thoroughly explored the city, you might be able to figure out your destination.
In some of these puzzles, they hint towards notable locations. To find the “Fountain located on Winemaker’s Lane,” you should focus your search on the southwestern part of the city.
Go over to the fountain and examine the surrounding area for hints from the riddle: it refers to two tall statues of Mary, one facing eastward and the other southward. Atop a building’s corner, you will find two niches with depictions of the Virgin Mary, both facing their respective directions. This is where you need to be!
Head towards the central fountain in the open space. Locate the water spout that is most distant from the Mary statues. Once you have identified it correctly, you’ll notice an Interaction or Loot option become available. Pick up the loot at the pipe to obtain Strange Little Verse II.

The second riddle goes:
A Proper Scholar Guards His Sources of Inspiration
Here on the north wall top
Sir Knight Pail von Bucket
Guarded the growing hops.
Now a shaft is all he can look at.
The rhyming pattern isn’t consistent throughout, right? Nevertheless, the riddle hints at the northern part of the city as the location for Sir Knight Pail von Bucket. Let’s make our way there now.
Rather than exiting the city over the bridge towards the northern farmlands, make a right turn near it instead, and proceed through the gateway into the enclosed area situated between the city walls.
Positioned next to the wall, facing the hop farm at a distance, you’ll find the Guardian of Kuttenberg: a scarecrow-like figure, sporting a straw hat covering its head and bearing an arrow in one of its eyes (probably the shaft).
Approach the knight and choose “Search the figure” to find Strange Little Verse III.

The third riddle reads:
A Proper Scholar is Aware of Time.
Grinding by day and by night
In winter dark and summer bright.
With his golden needle, Eden
scratches at the sixth, you’ll see then
where the knowledge tree rises from the ground.
There your virtues can be found.
The hints for the third puzzle seem to suggest time, paradise (Eden), and a wisdom-bearing tree. It’s reasonable to assume that “Time” is symbolically represented by a clock, and there indeed exists a clock near the market stalls in the city’s eastern sector.
The large clock’s spire may refer to the golden needle.
At 6 pm, the tip of the church spire’s shadow falls onto an opposite building, revealing a mural depicting Adam and Eve alongside the Tree of Knowledge in Eden.
Look around to the other side for a metal hatch. Open it to find Strange Little Verse IV.

The fourth riddle reads:
A Proper Scholar Honours the Imperial Majesty.
The imperial crown,
Without a doubt
Cannot a bird’s nest be.
For everyone will wonder,
What’s this for majesty?
But when there’s nowhere left to tryAnd birds much build their nests on high
Let it at least a kingfisher’s be.
A sparrow’s is not what we want to see.
The hints for this puzzle suggest nobility (or rulers such as kings/emperors) and a bird’s home high up. Solving this riddle might prove challenging since I am only aware of one bird nest in Kuttenberg, and locating it on the map can be tricky.
Located on the west side of the city, you’ll find “The Emperor Charles Tavern.” Though a bird’s nest icon might not jump out at you on the map, it’s indeed marked there.
Head to the tavern and go inside. Follow the stairs all the way up until you reach the attic.
Search for the bird’s nest that is located on the window facing the street outside the tavern. Get into a low position, take aim, and knock the nest loose using a stone by pressing the ‘G’ key on your keyboard, the ‘LB’ button on an Xbox controller, or ‘L1’ on a PlayStation pad. You can also bring it down with an arrow or bolt.
– Locate the bird’s nest perched on the window overlooking the street in front of the tavern. Crouch, aim carefully, and dislodge the nest by pressing ‘G’ (keyboard), ‘LB’ (Xbox controller), or ‘L1’ (PlayStation pad). You can also take it down with an arrow or bolt.
– In the window of the tavern that faces the street, find the bird’s nest. To knock it down, you can either press ‘G’ on your keyboard, use the ‘LB’ button on your Xbox controller, or push the ‘L1’ button on your PlayStation pad while aiming carefully and then toss a stone at it. Alternatively, you could shoot it down with an arrow or bolt.
1. The nest tumbles onto the sidewalk; retrace your steps to the building’s entrance and look for Strange Little Verse V in the nest there.
2. The nest drops to the pavement outside; head back to the front of the building, and examine the nest carefully for Strange Little Verse V.
3. The nest plummets onto the street; return to the front of the building and scrutinize the nest for the elusive Strange Little Verse V.
4. The nest descends onto the roadway; make your way back to the entrance of the building, and investigate the nest for the mysterious Strange Little Verse V.
How to solve the Strange Little Verse V riddle
The fifth and final Strange Little Verse goes:
A proper scholar knows his Saints!
St. George has struck with his deadly spear,
The dragon bleeds and writhes in fear.
But St. George is not done yet.
Beneath his helm he turns his head.
He fixes his gaze towards the east
Where there spawns another beast.
This dragon though from rock is made.
In its throat a window will come to your aid.
Hints you’ve been given feature St. George, who confronts a dragon using a lance, an eastern-located stone dragon, and a window; it is through this window that your prize awaits.
Just as finding Strange Little Verse III and the clock tower required a keen eye, so too does solving this riddle demand careful observation. Specifically, you should be on the lookout for a depiction of Saint George battling a dragon in a piece of art.
In various parts of the city, you’ll see big artwork like paintings and murals, but there’s just one that features Saint George slaying a dragon. To locate it, make your way to the northern part of town along the street where several armor shops are situated.
The painting depicting St. George is situated at a significant height on a sunny, lemon-hued structure that belongs to an armorer.
To your right stands a structure made of stone, painted green. If you look closely while slightly squinting, the arrangement of the two windows above an arch might remind you of a playful dragon.
Go under the mouth arch and search the small window near the doorway.
Inside, you’ll find your reward for solving the riddles:
- Master’s Studies IV
- On the Composition of Alchemy IV
After reaching a minimum level of 15 for each, the books will enhance your Scholarly knowledge and Alchemical abilities.
