In Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, the primary storyline offers multiple options for progression. However, despite these branching paths, the narrative ultimately comes together at specific junctures regardless of the choices made by players. An early instance of this convergence occurs during the Shadows of the Horns quest, where players are tasked with mending a gong associated with an ancient Keeper ceremony near the seashore.

In the game Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, much like other quests, Shadows of the Horns doesn’t provide a step-by-step walkthrough. While there will be indicators for the main objectives, some steps to advance the quest may remain unclear. This ambiguity is seen in the gong repair stage, so here’s a brief guide to make it easier to understand how to proceed.

How to Repair the Gong in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon

At the conclusion of the Shadows of the Horns mission, you’ll find yourself faced with a choice: whether to aid Breandan or Galahad. Whichever path you choose, your newfound ally will instruct you to carry out a ritual in the submerged village. However, there’s an issue: the gong for the ritual is damaged and to mend it, you must retrieve the wrecked gong and have the local blacksmith make the necessary repairs.

Broken Gong Location

The guidance arrow will guide you towards the Flooded Village, situated north of the Horns Keep. Continue following the marker until you reach the village, where you’ll notice a kind of gateway on top of a large stone near the beach, slightly beyond the shoreline. Swim towards it and you should be able to find a broken gong lying on the ground. This small item is almost indistinguishable from the mossy rock due to its excellent camouflage, making it difficult to spot initially.

Repairing the Gong

Before the blacksmith can repair the gong, he’ll require certain materials. He’ll ask you to fetch 15 Ethereal Cobwebs, which you can obtain by slaying Wyrd creatures during the night. These creatures aren’t particularly challenging at first, but it would be wise to enhance your equipment before taking them on.

Spend your time by setting up or locating a campfire and wait until approximately 10:00 PM in-game. It’s now when eerie spirits begin to wander around the game world. A great spot to investigate is the Sunken Village, as some of these ghosts often appear close to the fast travel point there.

After gathering sufficient cobwebs, make your way back to the blacksmith to have him repair the gong for you. Once repaired, head towards the coastal gateway and install the gong there. Give it a ring and watch as a cutscene unfolds, signaling the continuation of the main storyline as usual.

If there’s anything in this mission that seems problematic for you, remember you have the option to forcefully extract Arthur’s soul fragment from Excalibur. Make sure you’ve got plenty of healing potions on hand – around 2 dozen or so – and consume them all while holding onto Excalibur.
