Spending a large portion of our time playing video games involves pressing buttons on controllers repeatedly. To enhance this experience and make it more comfortable for us personally, customization seems a logical choice. Fortunately, the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 offers button remapping, enabling users to interchange any button with another, either for accessibility purposes or personal preference reasons. Here’s a guide on how to rearrange your controller buttons on the Nintendo Switch 2.
How to remap buttons on Switch 2
To rearrange your buttons on Switch 2, first, navigate to your console’s Settings from the home screen. After that, scroll through the options and choose ‘Accessibility’. In this section, you’ll find the option to ‘Customize Button Layout’.
By the way, remember that you can activate the setting called Change Button Mapping from the Quick Settings in the Accessibility menu. As its name implies, enabling this setting will allow you to modify your button mapping directly from the Quick Settings, which is accessible by long-pressing the Home button on your controller. This can greatly speed up and simplify the process.
After pressing the “Change Button Mapping” button, you should select the controller you wish to modify by clicking on “Edit Controller Mapping“. On the subsequent screen, you can customize all buttons of your Pro Controller or Joy-Cons. To do this, just press ‘A’ on any button option and choose the button you want to replace it with.
On the screen’s right side, you’ll find the option to modify Control Stick Settings, allowing you to swap your left and right sticks if you prefer this setup, which can be beneficial for left-handed users. Furthermore, you have the ability to adjust GL/GR Button Settings to assign functions to either of the back buttons on a Pro Controller. Assigning a function to these buttons doesn’t replace the standard one; instead, it provides an additional way to perform that action, making it perfect for actions like jumping or weapon swapping.
On the “Button Layout” page, you have the option to store and retrieve presets, making it simple to switch between them based on different games. Also, if you find yourself dissatisfied with your controller setup at any point, simply select “Reset Controller Setup” to revert to the original settings.
