How To Make Caviar In Stardew Valley

As an experienced gamer with hundreds of hours sunk into Stardew Valley, I can confidently say that crafting caviar is quite the journey. It’s not just about putting fish eggs in a jar; it’s about managing your resources, planning ahead, and a dash of luck.

In Stardew Valley, crafting caviar isn’t as simple as it might appear at first glance. To produce this exquisite artisan item, you need a specific type of fish and a jar for preservation. Just like other artisan goods in Stardew Valley, caviar fetches a higher price than the raw materials used to make it, and it has additional uses too, such as being an excellent gift. Additionally, caviar is required for the movie theater bundle, which becomes accessible once you’ve completed one of the main storylines.

How To Make Caviar In Stardew Valley

Caviar is specifically produced by placing sturgeon eggs in a preserving jar. Although you can preserve any roe this way, it’s only the sturgeon roe that becomes caviar. There are two methods to get sturgeon eggs, but only one reliably yields caviar.

1. Approach for creating the pond: Catch a sturgeon when it’s available (summer or winter). Set up the fish pond by providing the carpenter with 200 stones, 5 seaweed, 5 green algae, and 5,000G. The carpenter will require three days to construct the pond. Once ready, introduce the sturgeon into the newly built pond to produce semi-regular sturgeon roe.

Initially, there’ll be just one sturgeon living in the pond. To help them reproduce, you’ll need to accomplish certain tasks for the fish pond by gathering specific items. The more sturgeon you have in the pond, the greater the likelihood of finding roe each day.

The quests appear every few days once the max number of fish is present.

The quests are:

  • 1 sturgeon – 1 diamond
  • 3 sturgeons – 1 jelly or 1 pickle or 2 maple syrup
  • 5 sturgeons – 3 omni geodes
  • 7 sturgeons – 1 nautilus shell

Catching a sturgeon might yield a treasure chest, but finding sturgeon roe inside the chest is merely a possibility; it depends on luck when catching a sturgeon and opening the treasure chest.

Put your sturgeon roe inside a jar used for preserving. You can create these jars at a farm once you’ve reached level 4, requiring 50 wood, 40 stone, and 8 pieces of coal. The process takes approximately four days in-game for the sturgeon roe to mature into caviar.
