How To Increase Inventory Space In Hytale – Backpack Upgrade Guide

When you first start playing Hytale, your initial inventory space should be enough. You won’t have many items yet, so you won’t need extra storage until you can build a chest. But as you play, you’ll collect more and more materials, and your inventory will fill up quickly. Don’t worry, though – you can increase your inventory size in Hytale; it’s not limited to the default amount.

How to unlock the backpack in Hytale

If you want to carry more items in Hytale, you’ll need to unlock and use the backpack. It’s an extra storage space that adds more item slots to your existing inventory.

Luckily, you don’t have to wait long to unlock the backpack in Hytale. Simply upgrade your workbench to tier two! We’ve covered all the Hytale workbenches in a previous guide, and reaching tier two requires these resources:

  • 20x Iron Ingot, 20x Linen Scraps, 30x Copper Ingot

After gathering the necessary materials, go to your workbench and select the upgrade to tier two. This will give you access to new crafting options, including the backpack, which you can create with those same materials.

  • 8x Iron Ingot, 16x Medium Leather

You can get Medium Leather from the Tanning Rack and Iron Ingots by smelting Iron Ore in a Furnace. Once you have both, use a tier two workbench and the “Tinkering” tab to craft a backpack. After you make the backpack, you’ll find a note in your inventory. Use the note to learn the recipe, which will then permanently add the backpack to your inventory and give you nine extra storage slots.

How to upgrade the backpack in Hytale

A regular backpack is useful, but an upgraded one is even more helpful. Similar to how you can improve your weapons in Hytale, you can also upgrade your backpack to carry more items.

To improve your backpack to the next level, you’ll need a tier three workbench. If you have one, go back to the “Tinkering” section and use the required materials to upgrade it.

  • 8x Cobalt Ingots, 24x Heavy Leather, 40x Cindercloth Scraps

Upgrading your backpack once gives you 18 extra storage slots. You can upgrade it again with the Backpack Upgrade II, but instead of using a workbench, you’ll need to collect 100 Memories at the Forgotten Temple.

To access memories in Hytale’s Forgotten Temples, enter through the central portal, called the Forgotten Temple Gateway. Once inside, look for The Heart of Orbis – a white statue usually located in the center of the temple. Interacting with this statue will open the Memories screen.

In Hytale, you regain lost memories by finding and interacting with various creatures – everything from friendly animals to hostile enemies. After encountering 100 different types of mobs, you’ll be able to craft the Backpack Upgrade II using resources found in the Memories menu.

  • 1x Voidheart, 8x Adamantite Ingot, 16x Storm Leather

You won’t be able to get these materials until you’ve played Hytale for several hours, so don’t worry about them when you first start. For most of the early game, concentrate on getting the basic backpack, improving your workbench, and then upgrading to Backpack Upgrade I. You’ll be able to unlock the second backpack upgrade later on.
