As a seasoned Lightyear Frontier farmer and space-faring comedian, let me tell you, growing rare crops is akin to pulling a cosmic prank on old Ulf! First, you gotta make friends with that botanical jester from another planet, build his research outpost, and then help him mutate the local flora.
Cultivating crops in Lightyear Frontier is a delightful and lucrative hobby. Happily, your neighbor Ulf can assist you in growing some exclusive and uncommon plants, and if you’re curious about the process, here’s an easy-to-follow guide on how to cultivate all rare crops in Lightyear Frontier.
How to unlock rare crops in Lightyear Frontier
In Lightyear Frontier, to cultivate uncommon crops, you need to initially connect with Ulf, a congenial botanist hailing from another nearby planet, who is eager to collaborate with you on a study concerning the plant life of your Frontier. After constructing an Outpost for him at a location on your farm, he’ll travel to you on his spacecraft, allowing you to embark on his questline.
The primary goal in Ulf’s journey is to cultivate unique, hard-to-find variations of the crops existing on the planet. To achieve this, you must initially build a device called a ‘Seed Modifier’ at his Outpost. This tool enables you to combine the seeds of ordinary crops scattered across the Frontier with ones that might yield mutated versions of those same crops. Once you have grown a specific type of common crop at least once, you can use it in Ulf’s Seed Modifier for potential mutation.
In case you’re running out of seeds required for splicing, don’t forget that Lola is another option to purchase seeds from, provided she has them in stock. If not, then you’ll have to explore the map and gather them with your Mech.
After filling the Seed Splicer with enough seeds to create some hybrid seeds, scatter them into any open farm plots and water them daily, just like with regular crops. In a few days, your crops should mature, and one or more of them will stand out due to their size and color. This distinctive crop is likely a genetically modified plant, which you can offer to Ulf for his research and advancement in his quest.
Our aim is to provide Ulf with a selection of at least one unique, genetically-modified crop from each category, while you’re free to offer the remainder to Lola, which will greatly increase our financial resources.
All rare crops in Lightyear Frontier and how to grow them
In Lightyear Frontier, here are the details about the currently available unique (genetically modified) crops, including instructions on how to cultivate them and their starting prices. You can identify these crops due to their distinctive colors and sizes, as shown above.
Keep in mind that while you plant and nurture genetically-modified seeds just as you would with regular ones, it’s important to understand that only a fraction of these will actually result in mutated crops. This means that the more seeds you sow, the higher your chances are of obtaining a significant number of unique crops for Ulf’s research and also for selling a considerable amount to Lola at an exceptionally high price.
