If you’re looking for a cooperative Soulsborne adventure that offers faster-paced exploration, loot collection, and encounters with bosses from various map areas, then Elden Ring: Nightreign could be an ideal choice for you. This new addition to the Elden Ring universe has certainly made a significant impact worldwide.
In the game titled “Nightreign“, you’ll often come across impressive Cathedrals or Grand Churches that exude a sense of grandeur. Although these areas house some of the less challenging bosses within the game, they are rich in treasures and corpses that yield crucial items for you and your fellow players in multiplayer mode. Therefore, if you’re aiming to reap the most rewards, here is an extensive guide on how to optimize your loot from the Grand Churches in “Nightreign“.
Great Church Layouts, Loots, and Boss Types in Nightreign
In the video game Elden Ring: Nightreign, you’ll encounter massive edifices called Great Cathedrals or Churches. Unlike ordinary Churches, these grand structures hide within them various types of adversaries and bosses. You can enter these cathedrals at any stage during your adventure, and they are particularly renowned for doling out a vast number of Sacred Seals. These seals prove beneficial to spellcasters.
Four distinct types of Great Churches exist, each accommodating one of four unique bosses: The Fire Monk, Guardian Golem, Mausoleum Knight, and Oracle Envoys. These Great Churches serve as valuable locations for obtaining the Stonesword Key, a crucial item necessary to open the Evergaols in the game Nightreign.
Most notable churches often exhibit two distinct designs: one featuring an underground section for visitors to discover, and another boasting a second floor reachable by ascending wooden ladders attached to the church walls. The location of the boss battle depends on the layout of the church, either taking place on ground level or deep within the subterranean area.
In any notable church, the prime location is generally situated behind the primary altar. Often times, you’ll discover a large, ornate chest in this area, which carries a higher probability of containing unusual or precious items. This specific chest is also renowned for producing a Stonesword Key. Let’s delve a bit further into the characteristics of various Great Churches, starting with the one that shelters the Guardian Golem.
Guardian Golem Great Churches

In the game ‘Nightreign’, the Guardian Golem Great Church can be distinguished if there’s no symbol indicating an alliance next to the Great Church icon on your map. As you approach the church, you’ll notice peculiar gray substance emanating from it.
As a devoted follower, I can’t help but be intrigued by the Guardian Golem Great Church’s mysterious metal chest nestled behind its hallowed altar. This enigmatic relic often contains the elusive Stonesword Key, and on lucky occasions, it may bestow common or uncommon weapons and consumables upon the faithful.
Following that, you may scale the scaffolding next to the Church and traverse the circular wooden bridge, where you’ll encounter a deceased individual with weapons and some bats. Continuing on a bit more will lead you to another corpse that sometimes drops consumables (occasionally it also drops Stonesword Keys), as well as a container that drops Sacred Seals.
After that, you can circle around the church’s opposite side. Down below the wooden box, you’ll discover an unusual supply of items and a deceased body if you descend to that location.
Fire Monk Great Churches

In the game Nightreign, you can find the Fire Monk Great Church by searching for the fire symbol placed next to the Great Church icon on your map. These churches, known as Fire Monk Great Churches, share a similar structure with the Guardian Golem Great Church, but instead of a Sacred Seal box in the rafters, they will have an underground tunnel underneath them.
Much like the Church of the Nightreign’s Guardian Golem, this church features an altar with a metal treasure chest, followed by a side scaffold climb where you may encounter a few adversaries and a corpse yielding common supplies. Subsequently, you can cross the round wooden bridge once more to discover a wooden chest filled with valuable loot.
Following that, descend and venture below ground through the open tunnel next to the main altar. As you progress deeper into the tunnel, you’ll encounter a chest containing a Sacred Seal. Directly across from the chest, you’ll discover the boss room, and the boss will be a Fire Monk. Once you defeat the boss, proceed to the end of the tunnel where you’ll find a deceased body that frequently drops uncommon loot, and there’s another room to your left with yet another corpse inside.
Oracle Envoy Great Churches

In the game Nightreign, you can recognize the Oracle Envoy’s Great Churches by the sacred emblem next to the church icon on the map. These churches resemble one another architecturally, though they lack an underground tunnel and exhibit some minor variations.
In the realm of Nightreign, unlike other grand cathedrals I’ve explored, the metallic chest isn’t hidden behind the altar as usual. Instead, it’s where you’d typically find the box for Sacred Seals in the Guardian Golem Great Church. Stand with your back to the altar and gaze towards the left – that’s where you’ll spot the familiar box from these churches. Once retrieved, venture across to the scaffolding on the opposite side, following a path similar to the previous churches to reach the next area.
After scaling the scaffolding, you’ll encounter Oracle Messengers who may discard their weapons upon being defeated. Subsequently, you’ll traverse a circular wooden bridge to proceed to the next section. Beyond that, you’ll discover a metallic chest filled with valuable items. You can then navigate around the corner and move forward to the next area. If you carefully climb over the damaged church wall on the far side, you’ll find another body at the end.
Mausoleum Knight Great Churches

In Nightreign’s Guardian Golem Great Churches, there’s no affinity symbol near them on the map, much like the Mausoleum Knight Churches. However, unlike other churches, these Great Churches don’t have any grey protrusions on their top or sides. Instead, they share a similar structure with the Fire Monk Great Churches, featuring an underground tunnel.
Once more, the metallic trunk is situated at the back of the altar, accompanied by a potential body that may discard an armament. Following this encounter, you’re welcome to ascend the side scaffolding once more, leading you to the subsequent area. Here, you’ll discover a wooden chest, and further exploration around a wooden bridge will reveal yet another wooden chest.
From that location, follow the path to reach an underground passageway housing the Sacred Seal container, much like the Fire Monk Church’s tunnel layout. Opposite this box, there’s a boss chamber. Once you’ve overcome the box challenge, continue along the tunnel to discover a deceased body. Instead of another corpse, proceed towards the room where you’ll encounter a wooden treasure chest.
