To ramp up the difficulty in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, several adversaries will require unique strategies for defeat. For instance, some foes may be resistant or immune to specific spells, so you’ll need to adjust your tactics accordingly. A good example of this is the pesky Will-o-the-Wisp enemy. If not handled properly, they can pose a real threat due to their ability to evade common combat strategies.
Luckily, you have several strategies for countering these foes. Many of these tactics adapt well to the diverse character builds available in the game, meaning minimal adjustments are necessary.
How To Find Will-O-The-Wisps
In the vast world of Cyrodiil, various animals and creatures roam freely. If you travel west from Bruma, you’ll discover a significant number of Will-o-the-Wisps at Azura’s Shrine, but only if you visit during twilight or dawn. It’s also possible to encounter them in the Horn Cave, located south of Imperial City.
Some quests, like Mystery at Harlun’s Watch, will also have you fighting the Will-o-the-Wisps.
In Oblivion Remastered, the game’s world is accessible immediately following the tutorial. If you prefer, you can opt to confront these creatures from the get-go.
How To Fight A Will-O-The-Wisp

It’s worth noting that these beings can’t be defeated using regular methods like a wooden axe or a long sword. Instead, you should consider weapons categorized as ‘Silver’, as they are effective against them.
If you’re a mage who uses Destruction Magic, you can easily fend off these balls of energy.
Instead, it’s important to note that Will-o-the-Wisps are actually vulnerable to physical attacks, and you can inflict damage on them using the Hand-to-Hand skill. As you advance in this skill, you might find that it becomes more effective, dealing more damage than your Silver Weapon.
Overcoming adversaries can sometimes be tricky because they possess specific traits like their swiftness, peculiar behavior, and diminutive size. What makes them more formidable is their agility coupled with their tiny stature, making accurate targeting a challenge.
As someone gets closer to you, their presence will gradually deplete your vitality and magical power. However, you can neutralize their influence by employing Mysticism. Once activated, this skill will ward off their attack and potentially restore some of your own energy.
This strategy is beneficial if your character isn’t robust. If not, since it reduces your health and mana, you can engage the Will-o-the-Wisp using any of the previously mentioned weapons or magical abilities.

Even though they seem to vanish, making the battle more challenging, you might want to use the “Detect Life” spell instead. This enchantment will help you uncover any concealed adversaries in the fray.
If you lack this particular spell, an alternative course of action could involve engaging in combat close to bodies of water. Since the Will-o-the-Wisps cause the water to ripple slightly where they are present, this may help you locate them.
