How to find all Totem of Defiance pieces in Avowed

In the game Avowed, the Sworn Symbol of Resistance is ideal for enhancing stealthy Ranger characters, but obtaining it requires finding all seven fragments from the Emerald Stair first. Some of these fragments are easily obtainable, while others are hidden deep within perilous areas, so it’s essential to be well-prepared before venturing there. If you’re not careful, creatures in the Living Lands could pose a significant threat to your quest to bring the Totem of Defiance to Skaen. To help make your search easier, I’ve outlined the locations of all the pieces of the Totem of Defiance in Avowed below.

Avowed Totem of Defiance piece locations

As an avid adventurer, I’d suggest embarking on the quest for the Totem of Defiance by purchasing the ‘Fragments of the Offering’ from Lluisa Mercel at the Farmer’s Market. This will kick-start your usual treasure hunt for the seven fragments, but remember, most of the totem pieces are hidden in the riskier, western parts of the region. Before setting out, ensure you enhance your items in Avowed to top-tier quality (preferably Exceptional) for a smoother journey ahead!

After obtaining the fundamental piece of the Totem of Resistance and setting it at your Sworn Party Base, you can begin incorporating additional totem fragments, revealing distinct advantages with each one until you’ve constructed a complete totem. Keep in mind that only one totem can be operational at any given time. Avowed Totem Core

“To find the totem of the Quiet Slave, an ancient tower you must brave.”

On the western side of Emerald Stair lies Delemgan Glade, a section nestled between two towering cliffs. The Totem of Defiance core is positioned on the northern cliff. To access it, journey to Plateau Junction Avowed fast travel point, then venture southwest past the Godless Sinkhole. At the cliff’s end stands a dilapidated tower – the Shrine to Skaen. Ascend this structure and you’ll discover the Schemer’s Offering totem base at its summit.

Avowed Sacrificial Dagger

“Left alone in fallow fields, the ritual blade thirsts for skin freshly peeled.”

In Emerald Stair, you’re likely to come across The Sacrificial Dagger quite early. Make your way to the deserted farms situated towards the north of the map. On the eastern side of this area, behind the larger building, you should notice it tucked against the letter ‘F’ on your map. Upon finding the dagger, you’ll discover it securely fastening a note to a wall.

Avowed Idol of Covert Plots

“In a place of worship amidst moldering rot, this idol continues to scheme and plot.”

The Concealed Mastermind of Secret Schemes is secreted within an overgrown church on the western fringe of the Swampy Glooms, close to the Infected Encampment. Yet, reaching it requires a roundabout journey. Begin by proceeding southward along the cliffside, and eventually, you’ll discover a gate that can be unlocked with a key or lockpick.

Make your way past it, then head right and ascend up the hill until you reach the camp overrun with sporelings. On the edge of the cliff, you’ll spot a damaged bridge connecting straight to an opening in the church roof. Leap across, then lower yourself down to retrieve the idol from the shrine inside. Once you’ve done that, unlock the main doors to exit.

Avowed Idol of Secret Hatred

“In a damp hollow its sibling waits full of rage, while its previous owner decays with age.”

As a fervent admirer, let me share my insights about an enigmatic figure concealed within the timeworn Grotto – a diminutive labyrinth boasting two access points. For those daring enough to embark on this quest, I strongly advise choosing the lower entrance nestled in the river chasm’s cliffside. This strategic decision will facilitate effortless retrieval of the idol from its secluded sanctum.

After you enter, veer to your right and then wriggle through the narrow passageway. Upon exiting, you will find yourself in a tiny cavern where a skeleton clutches an idol.

Avowed Idol of Violent Rebellion

“From on high the third surveys the land, sowing the seeds of revolt near at hand.”

The Statue symbolizing Violent Uprising can be found at the Ranger Headquarters tower, situated near the eastern border of the Emerald Stair map. To locate it, begin by scaling the southern side of the tower using the ladder that ascends through a gap in the wall. Continue climbing until you reach the summit, where you’ll find the statue embedded within a wooden crate.

The Rebellion Idol is located at the Ranger Headquarters tower, near the eastern edge of the Emerald Stair map. Start by going up the south side using the ladder that leads to a hole in the wall. Keep climbing until you get to the top where you’ll find the idol inside a wooden box.

Avowed Obsidian Prayer Beads

“In a verdant glade where old ruins crumble, you will find beads dark and umbral.”

To reach the heart of the glade, traverse the tree root bridge first, then proceed towards the genuine glade. From the central open area, look for ruins perched atop a cliff formation to the west. The prayer beads are positioned on these very ruins; however, to ascend there, follow the path that leads through an archway to your right.

To reach your destination, walk up and along the curve to the left, pass under the tree root that crosses the path, then spin around and ascend onto it. Once there, you can scramble onto a rocky outcrop before jumping to the balcony perched atop the crumbling wall. There, you’ll discover a skeleton nestled beside some prayer beads.

Avowed Effigy Necklace

“Hidden in ruins of heathens long gone, the octet of skulls sings its silent song.”

Among these totem artifacts, The Effigy Necklace is unique in that it can only be accessed once you’ve advanced in the main storyline. To get there, you must first complete the “Ancient Soil” mission, which sends you on an expedition through the Nadu Tedek ruins. Following some mystical adra-related activities, a door will then open, granting access to the heart of Nadu Tedek.

After descending the winding staircase, proceed down the corridor and take a left turn. Ask Giatta to flip the switch on the wall nearby to unlock the door in front of you. Enter the subsequent room and make your way onto the tree limb by solidifying the water below for a stepping stone. Finally, jump up to the upper level where you’ll discover the necklace sitting on a table.

Avowed Totem of Defiance buffs

Beyond its central component, each piece of the Totem of Defiance offers some sort of enhancement, whether it boosts your fighting skills, enhances your Sworn Traits, or something else entirely. If your character’s Sworn build focuses on Ranger abilities, stealth, and poison damage, then this is an ideal totem to activate.

These are the buffs that the Totem of Defiance in Avowed provides:

Furious Frenzy: Second Wind casts Flurry of Blows.
The Slave’s Patience: Gain +2 Constitution and +2 Dexterity.
Hidden Hatred: Increases your damage against unaware enemies by 25%.
Kill the Master: Increases your damage against “skull” enemies.
Bitter Thoughts: Critical Hits deal high Poison Accumulation.
A Vengeful Victim: After taking damage from an enemy, your next attack within 10 seconds deals extra damage equivalent to 20% of the damage you received. This stacks with Retribution.
