As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for the arcane and the nostalgic, I found myself utterly captivated by the Ode to Castlevania DLC in Vampire Survivors. The arrival of Alucard’s Shield was nothing short of electrifying, and here’s how I managed to unlock this relic of a bygone era.
In the extension for Vampire Survivors named Ode to Castlevania, there are 20 fresh characters available, along with numerous new weapons and defensive items. One of the prizes you can earn is Alucard’s Shield, an extremely valuable item. Here’s a guide on how to secure this desirable shield:
How to unlock Alucard’s Shield in Ode to Castlevania
To obtain Alucard’s Shield, follow these steps: First, evolve Alucart’s Sworb into Alcard’s Swords by taking it to its maximum level. Next, ensure that both Alcard’s Swords and Christopher Belmont are at their maximum levels. Then, collect five other items that have been evolved in a single game run, and gather six passive items during the same run. Once you meet all these conditions, each chest you open could contain Alucard’s Shield.
Alucard’s Shield is not just a protective barrier that hovers above you, it also compresses all advanced gear into a solitary space within your weapon inventory. This means you can resume gathering new weapons without letting go of your existing arsenal.
How to unlock Alucard (and also unlock Christopher Belmont)
To access Alucard’s shield, you’ll initially need to free Trevor Belmont first. You can achieve this by beating the Giant Medusa Head together with Leon Belmont. Leon becomes available once you open the first coffin, which is positioned to your right as you spawn, close to the bridge leading to the castle.
After successfully defeating the Doppelganger while playing as Trevor Belmont, you’ll be able to acquire Alucard. The basic weapon that Alucard wields is known as Alucart’s Sworb. To upgrade it to Alucard’s Swords, you’ll need to level it up; this process will also make Christopher Belmont accessible for gameplay.
How to defeat Doppelganger as Trevor Belmont
The Doppelganger fight is a little bit of an odd one in Vampire Survivors; the screen changes to a 2D scroller-looking screen. This will unlock your ability to actually jump, which will make the Doppelganger’s attacks easier to dodge.
In contrast to the Doppelganger battle in the initial Castlevania game, where it mimicked your weapons and moves, this version will only resemble your appearance. Regardless of the character you enter a room with or the armament you carry, the Doppelganger will possess just two attacks: one is a dagger that it hurls directly at you, and another is a Rune Tracer-like attack that ricochets around the room.
Initially stepping into the Doppelganger’s realm strips you of all but your primary weapon. As you inflict greater harm on the Doppelganger, progressively more weapons become accessible, escalating the damage you can inflict upon it. After defeating it with Trevor Belmont, you gain control over Alucard and his Sworb.
