Everyone loves a trip down memory lane, and Sony is giving PlayStation fans just that! They’ve made the special 30th Anniversary themes, previously available for a limited time, a permanent feature on the PS5. Now, you can customize your PS5’s look and sound with themes inspired by classic PlayStation consoles, from the original PS1 all the way up to the PS4, adding a fun, retro feel.
It’s simple to change the look of your PS5! You can easily switch between different themes right in the system settings whenever you like. Here’s a guide on how to do it.
How to change themes on PS5
To change the look of your PS5, start by going to Settings. You can find this by clicking the gear icon on the top right of your home screen. Then, scroll down and choose System, then Appearance, and finally Appearance and Sound.
You can customize your system’s appearance and sounds by choosing from themes based on the PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, or the default PS5 style. While the main PS5 interface will remain largely the same, selecting a theme will change the backgrounds on system pages and the sounds you hear while navigating the menus to match the look and feel of that console generation.
When Sony re-released the 30th Anniversary themes, they unfortunately left out the unique startup sounds that were originally included for each console. Hopefully, those sounds will be added back in the future.

On the theme selection screen, you can get a quick look at how each theme will change the overall feel and colors. Don’t worry if you pick one you don’t love – you can always go back to the Settings and switch themes whenever you want, including the sound settings, so you’re never stuck with something you dislike.
You can personalize your PS5 even further by choosing from a variety of backgrounds for your Welcome screen. Learn how to change it here.
