As a seasoned racer with years of virtual wheel-spinning under my belt, I must say that Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown has certainly challenged me! The AI opponents in this game are relentless and competitive, making it hard for even experienced players like myself to catch a break.

The AI-controlled vehicles can be quite challenging opponents, causing one to ponder about adjusting the difficulty level. Let’s explore how that’s done.
Can you change the difficulty in Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown?
In Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, you’re unable to adjust the AI opponent’s skill level to make the game easier. This feature isn’t common in most arcade racing games because the AI is finely tuned. However, some players have mentioned finding the difficulty level in Solar Crown races particularly challenging. These comments can be found on forums like Reddit.
How to beat AI cars in Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown
Although you can’t change the difficulty in Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, there are some gameplay mechanics and techniques you can use to your advantage. These can help you win races given you’re not competing in the tournament with an underperforming car.
Driving Assists
In Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, the Driving Assists feature serves as your game’s difficulty level when you begin a race. You can choose your vehicle first, then tailor the Driving Assists options according to your preference, such as the race line guidance, gear shifting method, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Traction Control System (TCS). If you consider yourself an expert in racing games, select either Expert or Experienced preset. You also have the freedom to customize each setting individually, allowing you to create a personalized preset (as shown in the image above).
As a racing enthusiast, if you find yourself struggling to keep up, I’d recommend selecting the Novice preset for extensive Driving Assists – it’ll provide you with maximum support but unfortunately, no bonus cash rewards will be earned. In rainy conditions while racing, I personally crank up the Traction Control System (TCS) to its max. This feature is a lifesaver when navigating slippery roads as it makes handling the car a breeze.
Car Setup
Before hitting the track for a race, I always take a moment to adjust my Car Setup. Up top, you’ll find options for selecting your preferred Driving Mode and Tires – just make sure you have at least 15 Reputation points under your belt to unlock these features. Personally, when I’m racing against the clock with tight turns, I opt for the Dynamic Driving Mode. And if we’re talking off-road cross-country races, nothing beats the Off-Road Tires when it comes to outsmarting the AI cars.
Before anything else, head to a nearby workshop to get these tires for your vehicle. Once there, you can customize it further by exploring the Performance section. There, you’ll find different tire options including Off-Road tires, similar to those displayed in the previous image. Upon purchase, these tires will be permanently attached to this specific car. During each race, you’ll have the flexibility to select your preferred option.
4WD Cars
Any starter car you pick will be an RWD (Rear Wheel Drive). These are okay for early races but as you level up and compete in higher difficulty races, it’s imperative to get a 4WD (Four Wheel Drive). I purchased the Audi TT RS Coupe (2017) from a German Dealership for a reasonable price (see image above) and it’s a great car with good handling capabilities. Also, don’t forget to upgrade your car over time at Workshops to improve its stats.
