How To Change Characters in Elden Ring Nightreign

Discover essential details about the playable characters in Elden Ring Nightreign, known as Nightfarers, including tips on customizing them throughout your gaming experience.

As a gamer diving into Elden Ring: Nightreign, let me tell you, the Nightfarers are undoubtedly one of its standout features, surpassed only by the epic boss battles. Unlike previous titles from FromSoftware like Elden Ring or their soul-like games, Nightreign doesn’t follow a traditional “starting class” system. Instead, the Nightfarers take on that role. At first glance, the Nightfarers might seem like starting classes, but they’re so much more than that. You can enhance and customize these Nightfarers using Relics, but their abilities and passives remain permanent. Each Nightfarer offers a unique gaming and combat experience, with its own set of strengths and weaknesses. Initially, you get access to six Nightfarers, but some are hidden and require completing optional quests to unlock them.

After finding all the available Nightfarers, you are free to move between them, though there are a few conditions to keep in mind. This guide will provide essential information about the playable characters (Nightfarers) in Elden Ring Nightreign, as well as instructions on how to transition between them.

All Playable Characters (Nightfarers) in Elden Ring Nightreign

In Elden Ring Nightreign, a total of eight playable characters, known as the Nightfarers, are present. Initially, six of these characters can be accessed following the completion of the prologue. The remaining two characters become accessible after finishing the main story battle against Gladius, also known as Tricephalos, and completing associated side-quests.

Each Nightfarer possesses unique stat distributions and active/passive skills. Enhance your Nightfarer’s stats through Relic Rites, yet unlike Elden Ring, customization in Nightreign is quite minimal. Unfortunately, you can’t personally adjust a Nightfarer’s attributes to increase their Vigor or Endurance directly.

That said, here’s a list of all the Nightfarers in Elden Ring Nightreign:

Available from the start

  • Raider
  • Guardian
  • Wylder
  • Executor
  • Recluse
  • Ironeye

Unlocked later (via side-quests)

  • Duchess
  • Revenant

How To Change Characters (Nightfarers)

After finishing the introduction, feel free to explore various characters known as Nightfarers, except during an Expedition. To change your current Nightfarer, navigate to the heart of Roundtable Hold, past the Relic Rites table, where you’ll find a statue depicting a Banished Knight. Interact with this statue to switch among all available Nightfarers. You can also select a new Nightfarer at the beginning of an Expedition. However, remember that you have just 15 seconds to make your choice. If you don’t decide within that timeframe, the game will automatically choose the last selected Nightfarer for you.
