As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent battling it out in Valorant, I can’t help but feel a sense of relief and vindication with the introduction of the long-awaited blocking feature in patch 9.06. For far too long, we’ve had to endure the relentless barrage of toxicity from certain players, their venomous words echoing through our headsets and text chats. But now, thanks to this new update, I can finally silence the cacophony of negativity that has plagued my gaming experiences.
As a devoted Valorant player, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news from the latest 9.06 patch! Long-awaited by many, the developers have finally introduced the much-requested feature – blocking. Let me fill you in on how this new addition functions:
In Valorant, much like many multiplayer games, you may encounter unsavory players whose comments you’d prefer to avoid. Unfortunately, until recently, the only option available to sidestep such individuals was to mute them during a single game. However, a permanent blocking feature has been long-awaited by many players.
With the release of the 9.06 update, players now have the option to block annoying users, preventing them from sending any messages or causing harassment.
So, here is how you can do it and everything you need to know about the feature.
With the release of Patch 9.06 in VALORANT, you now have the option to block players. Once a player is blocked, you will no longer receive any form of communication from them:

What does blocking do in Valorant?
In Valorant, if you prevent a player from contacting you, they won’t be capable of sending text messages, voice communications, or extending friendship invitations or party invitations to you.
Essentially, blocking a player implies that they’ll have no means to interact or message you directly. You can block as many players as you wish without any restrictions.
Blocking players in Valorant
Blocking Valorant players is straightforward. Here’s a guide to help you out:
- Go to your careers and click on the match they were in
- Go to the scoreboard
- Right-click on the players’ name and click block
- Press confirm
Find the match they were in
To view your recent games, please navigate to the careers page on the main site, where you’ll find them listed. Once there, locate the matches where these games were played.
Find their profile
After hitting the match they’re in, I’ll guide you to the match summary. From there, just navigate your way to the scoreboard section, where you can locate their profile for further details.
Click to block
After locating their profile, simply click on their name with your right mouse button and select ‘Block User’.
Press confirm
Once you’ve clicked block, you’ll need to press block to confirm you want nothing to do with them.
Is there a way to avoid players in Valorant?
There currently is no way to avoid players in Valorant.
It’s important to understand that blocking a player doesn’t guarantee they won’t show up in your matches. In fact, it’s possible to wind up in the same game or even the same team with them, despite the block.
If you encounter situations where you’re being focused on or even stream-sniped, it’s difficult to fully evade them, but the best solution is to block such users.
If you’ve previously played Overwatch 2, you’ll already be acquainted with its dodge feature and how to opt out of matching up against specific teams.
In Blizzard’s setup, it allows you to steer clear of as many as 15 players, with the option to permanently block three specific ones. The developers have implemented various safeguards within their system to ensure that when you join a game, these blocked players will not be on your team.
So far, Overwatch 2 is the only competitive game with this feature, and Valorant does not have it.
Riot has yet to announce if they are working on an avoid system in any of their games.
