As a seasoned gamer with a lifetime of Potter-verse adventures under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia as I dive into Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions and its revamped Golden Snitch mechanics. The original game’s Snitch capture was the epitome of triumph – a 150 point score that often decided the fate of matches in an instant.
In the magical realm of Harry Potter, the Golden Snitch – a cherished element of folklore – once again takes center stage on the Quidditch field in Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions. This time, though, it operates slightly differently, so here’s an explanation of how it functions in our game
What does the Golden Snitch do in Quidditch Champions?
In the well-known Harry Potter book series, the Golden Snitch is closely associated with the sport of Quidditch. This tiny, golden ball, about the size of a walnut, is often the decisive factor in a Quidditch match. Seekers strive to catch it because if they do, their team receives an impressive 150 points and the game immediately concludes. This rule applied even in the popular video game Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup from 2003
In the game Quidditch Champions, often seen as a spiritual successor, the Golden Snitch operates in a way that might take some by surprise. To begin with, when you start playing and follow the Tutorial instructions, you’ll discover that the Seeker’s objective remains unchanged: to catch the elusive Golden Snitch before the opposing team’s Seeker does. Once a message alerts you that the Snitch has taken the field, you have the option to promptly switch to your team’s Seeker and actively chase it, if you prefer not to use automated controls
After grabbing hold of the elusive Golden Snitch on the pitch, it begins to emit a trail of shimmering golden hoops that you can pass through while flying. These magical hoops grant an extra burst of speed which persists for as long as you continue passing through them, and also fill up your visible “catch meter” located beneath the snitch’s model. Once this meter is completely full and turns blue, you may catch the Snitch by getting close enough and pressing the designated button
In a shift from the usual scoring system, grabbing the Snitch during Quidditch Championships no longer rewards a team 150 points. Instead, it only earns them 30 points. Moreover, capturing the Snitch does not instantly conclude the game for either team
Instead, when the Snitch is caught, it will enter a brief pause or cooling-off period, after which it can be pursued again. Continue this pursuit until the game timer hits zero, and try to catch the Snitch as often as possible during that time
Although reducing the thrill of capturing the Golden Snitch, it significantly improves the possibility of earning points during matches by not only relying on your Chasers. The changes made by Quidditch Champions have certainly contributed to making every role within the game more accessible
