Adi Shankar, the series creator, drew inspiration for portraying the Demon Realm as a mystical land from his upbringing in Calcutta, India. As he recounted, “When I was young, Time Magazine labeled it the filthiest city on earth, with widespread poverty.” This environment left a significant impact on him as a child. He aimed to convey the sensation of despair and feeling helpless to change things. In the series, the human world is depicted as serious, while the demon world appears whimsical.

Shankar articulated that poverty was widespread in India during that time, and despite not being born into it, he felt compelled as a child to make a difference.
