How Peacemaker Season 2 ending sets up Superman movie Man of Tomorrow and future of DCU

The second season of Peacemaker ended with a surprising cliffhanger that sets up future storylines in the DC Universe, and could potentially reveal the main villain for the upcoming Superman movie, *Man of Tomorrow*.

In the second season of Peacemaker, Chris Smith travels to an alternate Earth, known as Earth X, using a special device. There, he discovers a reality where his father and brother are still alive and things seem much improved.

We soon discovered this other world was actually controlled by Nazis. Meanwhile, in Episode 8, Chris realized he already had everything he needed right here, thanks to his new family, the 11th Street Kids.

Things seem to be wrapping up well, but an unexpected event is about to disrupt that positivity and cause significant problems throughout the DC Universe.

Lex Luthor’s plan finally revealed

Things started going wrong in Season 2 when Rick Flagg Sr. turned to Lex Luthor for assistance. This led to A.R.G.U.S. agents investigating different dimensions within the QUC, often with deadly consequences.

The agents are looking for a remote, safe location, but they don’t know the purpose of their mission beyond that.

Finally, they discover the planet’s purpose: it’s intended to be a prison named Salvation, built to hold meta-humans away from Earth.

Flagg claims he used Luthor’s mind to improve the world, and promises that no one will ever be able to avoid Salvation.

Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 8 ending explained

Harcourt believed their work at the QUC was meant to help people, so discovering her colleagues died searching for what turned out to be just a high-tech prison filled her with rage, along with the rest of the 11th Street Kids.

They decide to forge their own path, funding a new agency called ‘Checkmate’ with money from Vigilante. Their goal is to improve the world, suggesting the eighth episode will likely have a positive ending.

However, Season 2 takes a surprising turn when Rick Flagg is unexpectedly abducted, forced into a van, and taken to a warehouse before being exiled to a prison planet.

Driven by grief over his son’s death, Flagg insults Peacemaker with a hateful message – “This is for Ricky, you piece of sh*t” – and then slams the door, leaving Peacemaker trapped in Salvation.

Flagg leaves with a smug grin, and the episode concludes with Chris hearing frightening sounds from the woods surrounding Salvation.

What Salvation means for the future of the DCU

The dimension known as Salvation first showed up in DC comics during the ‘Final Crisis’ storyline in 2007. It was used when the Suicide Squad captured several supervillains, like Lex Luthor, and sent them there.

According to James Gunn, the creator of ‘Peacemaker,’ the show’s premise comes from a comic book series called ‘Salvation.’ In it, Amanda Waller and Rick Flagg decide to stop dealing with constantly escaping super-powered individuals. They simply resolve to send them to a remote planet with no way back, abandoning any concern for justice.

This is where our story within the DC Universe really starts to unfold.

Did Peacemaker just set up the villain in Superman movie Man of Tomorrow?

Although it’s still unconfirmed whether Peacemaker will return for a third season, James Gunn finished his podcast by promising “Peacemaker will be back.” He also hinted that these characters will reappear in the DC Universe soon.

So, where are we going with all this? James Gunn’s hinted that Season 2 of the show was setting things up for his new Superman movie, ‘Man of Tomorrow.’ And he’s also said the movie’s gonna be about Superman and Lex Luthor actually teaming up to take on some *really* big bad guy. It’s got me wondering where in the DC universe this is all going down!

The comic books show that the Salvation organization was secretly run by DeSaad, a powerful and cruel villain who works with Darkseid and enjoys inflicting pain. If James Gunn is basing the ‘Man of Tomorrow’ story on this comic book plot, we may have just discovered who the main villain will be.
