As a seasoned horror enthusiast who’s seen my fair share of gore, I can’t wait for Terrifier 3! Having survived the bone-chilling terror of its predecessors, I’m ready to face Art the Clown once again. But be warned, this isn’t a movie for the faint-hearted or the easily disturbed.
If you’re eagerly anticipating watching Terrifier 3 this weekend, remember to verify that you and your friends meet the required age for admission, given the horror film’s rating.
Despite having more children in Terrifier 3 than any previous installment, this film is by no means suitable for kids. In fact, it’s hard to categorize as even being appropriate for adults, with accounts of viewers becoming nauseous, fainting, or exiting the theater in revulsion.
Undoubtedly, horror film enthusiasts will find this delightful news. As Phil Falcone, producer of Terrifier, stated in an interview with TopMob, fans can expect nothing less than satisfaction as Art the Clown’s character takes on a darker approach. Furthermore, the movie offers numerous gruesome deaths that surpass The Passion of the Christ in terms of fake blood usage, making it even more terrifying to watch.
Essentially, Damien Leone’s movie Terrifier 3, similar to its earlier versions, isn’t recommended for family viewing. However, one may wonder about the appropriate age to watch it.
Terrifier 3 age rating explained
The uncertainty surrounding the age rating for Terrifier 3 is due to the fact that it doesn’t have one. In the U.S., it’s considered unrated, which means no rating like G, PG, PG-13, R, or NC-17 has been given by the Motion Picture Association (MPA).
Movies are usually given ratings according to the type of content they contain, such as violence, profanity, nudity, or other elements that might influence whether it’s appropriate for various age brackets. Nevertheless, it’s essential to note that this rating system is entirely optional.
In simpler terms, the movie “Terrifier 2” was released without a rating suitable for general audiences due to its intense levels of violence and gore (which you probably already know). This is because it’s challenging to obtain an R rating, which requires adults to accompany children under 17, without making substantial edits.
In the same vein, Director Chris Nash explained to TopMob that the unrated status of “In a Violent Nature” might be attributed to its persistent and intense depiction of violence.
In Terrifier 3, it’s likely we’ll see even more unsettling moments, as Leone hinted that Art the Clown could potentially be his most chilling portrayal yet.
How old do you need to be to watch it?
Generally speaking, as there’s no rating for this movie, it’s up to the cinemas showing it to decide on the guidelines. However, a common rule is that children under 17 need to be supervised by an adult guardian when watching.
At American cinemas like AMC, Cinemark, and Regal, it’s important to remember to always have your identification ready, as they require you to present it when you visit.
US Terrifier 3 fans are lucky
While numerous U.S. movie theaters adhere to the 17+ rating, in the United Kingdom, the British Film Classification Board has classified it as 18 due to “intense gore and graphic depictions of violence and injury.
In a notable shift, France has implemented a restriction on minors viewing Terrifier 3, marking the first such ban since Saw 3 was released in 2006.
Badge of honor 🩸 🪓 🤡 #terrifier3

Distribution teams for “The Terrifier 3” expressed their regret in a statement about an unexpected last-minute decision that significantly impacts the film’s release, which has been highly anticipated by over 10,000 French fans and was set to premiere on October 9 (with plans to stay as scheduled).
Instead, it appears that Leone is not overly concerned, instead boasting about his action, as evident by him labeling it a “badge of honor” on Twitter.
Do you need to watch the other Terrifier movies first?
It goes without saying that you don’t have to watch anything you don’t want to. But it’s highly recommended that you at least watch Terrifier 2 before Terrifier 3 – even by Leone himself.Â
The reason for this is that the third installment carries forward the narrative of the second film, as Art the Clown, played by David Howard Thornton, once again unleashes terror on Sienna (Lauren LaVera) and Jonathan (Elliott Fullam). Additionally, Vicky (Samantha Scaffidi), who was also present in the original Terrifier, joins Art as a new accomplice.
When SlashFilm inquired about the necessity of watching previous Terrifier films beforehand, Leone suggested that it’s not essential, and one might even skip Terrifier 1. However, he strongly advises catching up on Terrifier 2 instead.
If the main movie studios had been involved, Terrifier 3 might have taken a different shape. According to him, after the sequel’s triumph, he held discussions with various film studios as they were intrigued by its formula.
He mentioned that some people were eager to produce Terrifier 3, but their intention was to essentially start anew, disregarding the direction taken in Part 2, and make it more appealing to a broader, mainstream audience.
It was crystal clear to me that it was a poor choice. Moreover, we had established something significant in part two with characters crucial to this series, and simply abandoning all that progress and starting anew wasn’t an option.
As a game enthusiast, I’d say: “Instead of teaming up with a big studio, the director chose a different path. He’s got more to his story than meets the eye and characters he wants to delve deeper into. That’s why, my friends, you’ll definitely want to stick around for part two!
“The release date for Terrifier 3 is set for October 11. Before that, check out our guides on watching the Terrifier films in sequence, ranking the most gruesome Terrifier kill scenes, and behind-the-scenes insights into how the shocking scene in Terrifier 3 was created.
