How Guerrilla And Lego Brought New Horizon Adventures Set To Life

For quite some time now, partnerships between Lego and video games have been very popular. Various Lego sets have depicted the realms of Super Mario, Animal Crossing, Sonic the Hedgehog, and many more, with the upcoming Horizon set joining the list soon.

Following numerous fan creations over the years, the authentic sets will be available for purchase starting March 1 in retail stores. However, Stephane Varrault, the design director at Guerrilla, has already offered a glimpse to enthusiasts by showcasing their appearance and functioning.

He shared with the PlayStation Blog that constructing Lego models of various machines throughout the universe encourages contemplation on abstraction. Abstract thinking is beneficial for designers as it leads them to consider the fundamental elements of enjoyment, focusing on the basics.

To create the design for the Shell-Walker, a key symbol of the game, it fell to senior model designer Joseph Kyde at Lego to find a solution. Transforming the intricate mechanisms and valuable contents stored on the Shell-Walkers’ backs into Lego components wasn’t an effortless task.

Kyde shared that constructing the hexagonal cargo pod from Lego pieces was an exceptionally tough project but one of his favorite problem-solving experiences within this collection. After spending several days experimenting with various concepts, he arrived at a design featuring two symmetrical components that closely resembled the in-game design.

The Shell-Walker is not the only machine in the set as the Sawtooth will be included as well.

Kat Woolley, senior producer at Studio Gobo, expressed her excitement about the new Lego Horizon Adventures set. She noted that these toys are incredibly detailed and can be customized for posing and animation. This unique feature allows users to create their own stories, she added, which is a fantastic opportunity she feels privileged to see coming from Lego.

Indeed, this collection features both Aloy and Varl mini-figurines. It seems rather incomplete without the game’s hero, doesn’t it?

Frédéric Andre, the creative head of Lego Group, enthusiastically stated, “It was obvious to include Aloy,” as Varl bears the same level of intricate design as Aloy. “With all his detailed embellishments, Varl makes an outstanding minifigure!” Aloy’s figurine showcases her in her distinctive attire and a collection of weapons that enable her to tackle any challenges that come her way.

Back in November 2024, the Lego-themed video game adaptation of the primary series, titled Lego Horizon Adventures, hit the shelves. This latest Lego set carries a tag price of $45.
