In Monster Hunter Wilds, while many equipment skills are easy to grasp, some intricate aspects remain veiled in enigma. For instance, the Convert Element skill may seem straightforward at first glance, but mastering it requires an in-depth understanding of even its tiniest components to reap its full potential.
Just as the Critical Element in MH Wilds, the Convert Element conceals a multitude of intricacies. Here, we’ll offer a quick rundown on how this ability functions, exploring its benefits and the ways it interacts with players. This will help you better understand and utilize this powerful skill.
How Convert Element Works in MH Wilds

The Convert Element skill is focused on dishing out Dragon damage. When you receive any kind of Elemental damage, this ability will amplify the Dragon damage you inflict and cause your attacks to unleash large bursts of damage once you’ve dealt enough Elemental damage to a creature. Testing against the training dummy in the Training Area has produced the following outcomes:
- The damage bonus is equal to 80/120/180 additional Dragon damage, but this only works if you’re using a Dragon weapon. This part of the skill won’t add any Dragon damage to your weapon if it uses any other element.
- Convert Element 3 deals 310 Dragon damage against the training dummy when its bursts trigger. This is unaffected by your weapon’s stats, though the damage will be reduced if it hits Hard Hide (white numbers).
- It takes eight Triangle/Y/LMB attacks with the Gore Magala Sword and Shield to trigger the Dragon damage burst on the training dummy when hitting it from the front.
- The hits needed to trigger subsequent Dragon damage bursts appear to increase after the previous one is triggered.
- The extra hits from Corrupted Mantle drastically improve the frequency of the Dragon damage bursts.
- Red lightning will crackle around your weapon whenever Convert Element is active.
- Convert Element lasts for 120 seconds. Once it ends, it will go on cooldown for 90 seconds.
- Convert Element can be triggered by blocking an elemental attack.
Is Convert Element Worth Using?
Indeed, here’s an important point to note: Players need to grasp that they merely get two minutes to utilize Convert Element’s effects before it requires a 90-second cool-down period. This shouldn’t pose too much of a challenge for the typical player when confronting monsters such as Rathalos, but against tempered Arkveld or Gore Magala, it will be significantly more difficult, unless players have thoroughly mastered these monsters’ attack patterns.
Furthermore, as Convert Element primarily boosts damage against dragon foes, its applications are predominantly effective against dragon-vulnerable adversaries. While it can be employed against other creatures, you’ll generally derive greater benefits from alternative abilities or strategies. To maximize its potential, consider using weapons such as the Sword and Shield, Switch Axe, Insect Glaive, or Dual Blades.
