How Bridgerton Season 4’s Post-Credits Scene Teases Season 5’s Next Lead Addressed By Showrunner

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Bridgerton season 4, part 2.

The showrunner has revealed that the post-credits scene in part 2 of Bridgerton season 4 hints at which Bridgerton sibling will be the focus of season 5.

A bonus scene shows Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), the lady’s maid, getting married in a small, beautiful ceremony at their home, with all their loved ones present. This wedding is a significant moment for both of them, bringing their lives together and allowing Sophie to finally experience the life she deserves.

While Benedict and Sophie’s love story is the clear highlight of this season and the post-credits scene, Bridgerton showrunner Jess Brownell revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that the finale included subtle clues about who will be the central couple in season 5.

We’ve intentionally included some hints about the next leads, but we don’t want to overshadow Benedict and Sophie’s storyline this season. We’re planning to announce the new leads soon, as we always do before starting filming, and we’re getting close to that point. I can’t give an exact date, but an announcement will be made in the near future.

After the wedding, Viscountess Kate (Simone Ashley) playfully asks some of the Bridgerton siblings who she thinks might get married next. This makes both Eloise (Claudia Jessie) and the recently widowed Francesca (Hannah Dodd) uncomfortable. Eloise unexpectedly reveals she actually enjoys weddings. Francesca, however, implies she’s content with her past romance, stating she only needs to find “great love” once in her life.

Season 4 of Bridgerton has opened up possibilities for the next season to focus on either Eloise or Francesca. Eloise is beginning to consider the benefits of marriage as her friends and family move forward with their own relationships. Meanwhile, Francesca’s recent loss has created an opportunity for her to find love again, mirroring her mother Violet’s journey this season.

Though many shows use post-credit scenes to hint at future characters – like Marvel movies often do – the showrunner decided against it. She wanted the focus to remain on Sophie and Benedict’s wedding, which was a key moment for them. As she put it, “We always knew we wanted our Cinderella figure to get her fairy tale wedding.”

Originally, the wedding was going to happen right after the show’s main events finished. But Shonda Rhimes and I decided viewers might need a beat to process everything, so we moved the wedding to a scene after the credits – a little surprise for the audience.

As a huge Bridgerton fan, I’m still eagerly awaiting official news about who Francesca will end up with! It’s a different situation than when Benedict was revealed as the next lead – we actually saw it happen in the season 3 finale, during that sweet scene about the masquerade ball with Eloise. But the good news is, both Eloise and Francesca are definitely getting their stories told. Netflix renewed the show for seasons 5 and 6 way before season 4 even came out, so we know they’re committed to following all the Bridgerton siblings!

All episodes of Bridgerton season 4 are streaming now, only on Netflix.
