How to level up in Black Ops 6
In the initial release, players can accumulate experience points (XP) by participating in multiplayer and Zombies game modes. Starting from Season 1, battles in Warzone will also contribute to XP. This player progression system is composed of 55 levels, which unlock a variety of weapons, equipment, scorestreaks, perks, additional operators, and other rewards as you advance.
In the Black Ops 6 lobby, players can check their advancement by navigating to the Barracks tab.
The full list of loadout-type items unlocked through levels 1-55:
- Loadouts (Default) (MP)
- Loadouts (Custom) (MP)
- Weapons (Primary) (MP, ZM, WZ)
- Weapons (Secondary) (MP, ZM, WZ)
- Weapons (Melee) (MP, ZM, WZ)
- Tacticals (MP, ZM, WZ)
- Lethals (MP, ZM, WZ)
- Field Upgrades (MP, WZ)
- Field Upgrades (ZM)
- Perks (MP)
- Wildcards (MP)
- Scorestreaks (MP, ZM, WZ)
- Ammo Mods (ZM)
- GobbleGums (ZM)
- Operators (MP, ZM, WZ)
- Emotes (MP, ZM, WZ)
- Features (MP, ZM, WZ)
It’s important to mention that all GobbleGums are immediately accessible in Zombies mode at the beginning of the game. The ones Activision lists as level rewards (from level 1 to 55) serve as additional, one-time use GobbleGums that grant extra items.
How prestige works in Black Ops 6
In simpler terms, the iconic “prestige” feature from Call of Duty games is making a comeback. Instead of auto-promoting players to prestige when they reach level 55, as has been the case in recent years, this classic mode now allows players to choose when they want to prestige.
Opting for a fresh start in Black Ops 6 means your character’s level will revert to level 1, requiring you to unlock content that was previously accessible from levels 1 to 55 once more.
However, there are a few exceptions. The following items will not be relocked or reset:
- Weapon progression, camos, and reticles
- Weapon builds – All the custom builds created for your weapons will be waiting for you when you reach the level needed to unlock it again
- Challenge progress and unlocks
- Store and battle pass content
- Operator and emote unlocks
- Zombies GobbleGums
Restocking all your weapons and equipment might seem inconvenient, but you’ll earn rewards as you progress through each prestige level.
When entering Prestige 1, players immediately receive the following:
- Prestige 1 Icon: Your first Prestige icon, which slots into the center of your level insignia for all players to see
- “Nacht Raider” Weaver operator skin
- Access to the Prestige 1 multiplayer and Zombies calling card challenge sets
- One permanent unlock (To prevent one item from being locked next time you prestige)
Furthermore, you’ll gain a special Prestige reward every ten levels, which means you’ll receive rewards at the 10th, 20th, 30th, 40th, and 50th levels.
10 prestige tiers are available, culminating in the title of Master Prestige once the final one is achieved. Upon reaching Master Prestige, a player’s level exceeds 55 for the first time and ascends to an impressive 1,000 level mark. Along this journey, extra perks and rewards come into play, with a sneak peek of these Master Prestige bonuses provided in the image below.
Camos, reticles, calling cards, and mastery badges
At its release, Black Ops 6 will include classic calling card and camouflage challenges, as well as the challenge of completing reticle tasks to unlock a variety of reticle designs for weapon personalization. Additionally, there’s the secret “Shadow Missions” known as Dark Ops.
Camo challenges
This year, the camouflage challenges are set up slightly differently. Each weapon now comes with nine Military camo options and two exclusive “Special Camo Patches” that are only obtainable with that specific weapon. These special camos can be unlocked in any sequence once a player has the necessary access, and each one has unique conditions for activation.
After being unlocked, special camouflages become universal and may be applied to any weapon, provided that the weapon too has achieved the Military Camos and gained access to the Special category in at least one gameplay mode.
Once a player acquires Military and Special camouflage patterns, they can start working towards earning Mastery camos. Black Ops 6 offers four Mastery camos to be achieved in each game mode: Multiplayer, Zombies, and for the first time, Call of Duty: Warzone, introduced with Season 1.
Reticle unlock challenges
10 reticles can be unlocked within each gaming mode: Multiplayer, Zombies, and starting from Season 1, Call of Duty: Warzone.
Each of the optics you have offers a unique unlock, which can be achieved by scoring kills as you aim down sights using that specific optic in the appropriate game mode.
Each person’s reticle upgrades and unlocks are tied specifically to the optic they’re using, rather than a particular weapon. So, players can advance towards their preferred optic’s reticles by using any weapon that is compatible with it.
It’s important to mention that all weapons use the same basic optical systems, however, certain weapons like sniper rifles come with specialized optics that are exclusive to their specific type of weapon.
Calling cards
As a gamer, I find myself diving into various groups of calling cards and their associated challenges. Each group consists of several sets, each one offering an opportunity to unlock and conquer. To claim the coveted animated mastery calling card for a specific set, I must collect every single card within that set first. It’s like completing a puzzle or achieving a level-up in an epic quest!
Individuals who achieve the rank of Prestige will be granted extra challenges in the multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone game modes with each new Prestige level they attain (Season 1).
As a dedicated player, achieving 10 Prestiges and Prestige Master has me excited for a whopping 11 extra challenge sets to conquer in every game mode!
Mastery badges
In Black Ops 6, an extra challenge is introduced through the inclusion of Mastery Badges. These badges acknowledge and honor impressive in-game achievements with a special pop-up display on the game’s user interface, and they also offer a slight experience point boost.
In Black Ops 6’s multiplayer and Zombies mode, there are more than 200 awards to be won. Some of these awards are returning favorites from previous Black Ops games, but Activision notes that some are entirely new to Call of Duty. After completing each game, players can access their earned medals in the Post-Match Report and also through the Medal Collection tab.
