The production team is currently working on Season 3 of House of the Dragon, and its showrunner, Ryan Condal, recently hinted at an “unusual” episode that could mark a significant shift for the series.
The Dance of the Dragons is now underway in earnest – that’s the truth this time around. In the final episode of House of the Dragon Season 2, Rhaenyra proposed a “tit-for-tat” swap, and Alicent reluctantly consented to give up Aegon to bring an end to the conflict.
As a gamer, I’m bracing myself for some unexpected twists in the upcoming third season. Aegon has skipped town from King’s Landing with Larys, which means trouble is brewing. And get this, we’re about to witness one of the most epic naval battles ever in Westeros – The Battle of the Gullet. I can feel it in my bones; one character won’t make it through this battle unscathed.
Due to George R.R. Martin’s “Fire and Blood”, fans now have some notion of what might occur; however, after this single episode, all predictions are thrown out the window.
House of the Dragon Season 3 will have a “conceptual episode”
In conversation with Josh Horowitz, Candice hinted that Season 3 would incorporate four significant occurrences straight from Martin’s book, promising an even more expansive tale than the second season.
He finds it incredibly impressive when considering the breadth and magnitude of what’s being created, and he believes the show excels at this… What they’re constructing is simply astounding,” he expressed.
Later on, Condal shared what he was particularly looking forward to. “We’ve had the chance to add some fun elements this season, and there’s an episode written by Sara Hess that I’m really enthusiastic about – that’s all I can say for now,” he disclosed.
Condal clarified that it doesn’t follow the usual style we’ve outlined. Instead, it focuses heavily on characters, which he finds fantastic and is eager to witness brought to life.
It’s still uncertain who or what the main focus of that episode will be. However, we do know that the season premiere will feature the Battle of the Gullet, introduce Daeron Targaryen, and present Ormond, Otto’s nephew, for the first time.
According to Condal, the idea of creating The Gullet has been on their minds for approximately three years, and they’ve been working diligently to find an approachable yet thrilling method of production.
This project’s organization involves close coordination among all departments, aiming to accomplish something truly unprecedented.
