The online leaks of “House of the Dragon” have become as predictable as winter following summer in the realm of Westeros. It seems that no matter how many measures HBO takes to prevent such occurrences, leaks continue to surface like dragons from their hidden lairs.
It appears that HBO’s “House of the Dragon” has once again experienced an unauthorized online release, this time with its Season 1 finale becoming accessible on the internet. Remarkably, a similar incident occurred frequently throughout the eight-season journey of “Game of Thrones.”
Last night, clips from the final episode of Season 2 surfaced on TikTok, which is scheduled to air in five days on HBO and stream on Max. One particular TikTok user uploaded 14 videos and around 30 minutes of unseen finale footage; these videos garnered between 50,000 to 100,000 views before this article was written. Approximately three hours after being posted, the TikTok account was suspended, however, the clips have since been shared on Twitter, X, and Reddit.
The scenario bears a striking resemblance to the unauthorized disclosure of the “House of the Dragon” Season 1 finale, which surfaced online two days prior to its scheduled broadcast in October 2022. This early release was traced back to a distribution partner based in Europe, the Middle East, or Africa, as stated by HBO at that time. EbMaster has attempted to contact both HBO and TikTok regarding the Season 2 finale leak, but has yet to receive a response.
During the final season of “Game of Thrones”, there were numerous instances of leaks online. Several episodes from Season 8 surfaced on unauthorized websites, and surprisingly, some even appeared prematurely on legal platforms like DirecTV Now and Amazon Prime Video’s German service before their official broadcasts.
Due to numerous global distributors serving the passionate fanbase, it’s become extremely challenging for an entire season of shows like “Game of Thrones” or “House of the Dragon” to avoid early spoilers before their official release. HBO attempted to combat piracy by withholding finale screeners from journalists for Season 2, but unfortunately, the episode still leaked prematurely.
