A new official game based on the world of Game of Thrones has been revealed! Called Game of Thrones: Dragonfire, it will be released this summer and is free-to-play.
A new mobile strategy game called Game of Thrones: Dragonfire was announced on April 7th. Developed by Warner Bros. Games Boston, the free-to-play game lets players control dragons and build armies as they compete for the Iron Throne. Players will choose their House, form alliances, and battle to win. Game of Thrones: Dragonfire Arrives This Summer
I’m so excited about Game of Thrones: Dragonfire! From what I’ve read, it sounds like the creators are bringing all their experience to a new strategy game. It’s all about battles, taking over land, and, of course, dragons! Apparently, it’s inspired by House of the Dragon, and you get to play as someone descended from Valyria, tasked with raising and flying your own dragons. It sounds like a totally new story within that world, and I can’t wait to try it out!
The game will feature a mix of familiar and new characters, letting players team up or compete with each other. Players will also take part in strategic battles to prove themselves as skilled dragonriders and powerful figures in the world of Westeros.
House of the Dragon Season 3 Debuts in June
Although a specific release date hasn’t been revealed, the game’s marketing is tied to the upcoming third season of House of the Dragon, which will premiere on HBO and HBO Max in June. This season is one of two remaining for the Game of Thrones prequel, with Season 4 planned as the series finale. House of the Dragon takes place roughly 200 years before the original Game of Thrones series, telling the story of the Targaryen family’s downfall during a brutal civil war.
This new game joins a growing list of video games inspired by the popular Game of Thrones books and TV series. Previously, Telltale Games created a five-episode adventure game with characters from the show. A mobile game called Game of Thrones: Legends came out in 2024, and more recently, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad expanded the franchise to both mobile and PC, also drawing characters and settings from the HBO series.
Fans can look forward to the release of Game of Thrones: Dragonfire this summer. Both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon are currently available to stream on HBO Max, and another Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, premiered earlier in the year.
